Is it possible for my computer to write japanese? We Answered:
In most Windows Operating Systems you can easily turn this option on by going to your Control Panel and double clicking on Regional and Language Options.Once this is open, go to the Keyboards and Languages tab and click the button Change Keyboards. You will see an "Add" button under the "General" tab, click that and in the following displayed list scroll down to Japanese and click the + to expand the menu. Under "Japanese (Japan)" : "Keyboard", ensure that Japanese and Microsoft IME are selected with a check mark. Click "OK" to continue.
In the "General" tab again, make sure that the default input language is set to your native language or most used (in mine, it is "English (United States) - US"). Click "Apply" to apply those settings and exit the Regional and Language Options.
The default method of switching back and fourth from your native language to Japanese would be in the toolbar (with the "Start" button). You will see a small "EN" (or your default language) left of the clock. Click this and select Japanese.
Now you will have a "JP" and "A" square. Click the "A" and scroll to Hiragana. This "A" should now turn into an "A" in Hiragana (?). Now you are ready to begin typing in Japanese.
This will naturally come out at Hiragana but will guess what you mean in Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. As you use this more and more, the computer will learn what you type and the guessing will become more accurate.
In order to change back to English, be sure to click the "JP" followed by "EN".
This tutorial was written step by step for Windows Vista and as I remember correctly, it should work in earlier versions too. I hope this helped.

How do you write Japanese without a Japanese keyboard? We Answered:
well for windows....if you go to "region & languages" (prob. in Control Panel but you can search "Region") and then click on the tab "Keyboards and languages" and then "change keyboards" then Add a keyboard. You go to japan and then get Microsoft IME
Then on the task bar there should be a little icon with "EN" on it. This is the language bar. (sometimes you might have to tell your computer to show the language bar) If you click on "EN" you can change to Japanese. then there will probably be an "A" written there, click on that and choose hiragana. The "A" will change to "?". Then you can just type in romaji and it will convert it as you type.
When you want a kanji, just write it in hiragana and hit space. There will be a drop down menu where you can pick which kanji you want. if you don't want it to convert it to kanji, after it converts it to hiragana hit enter.
