What I've learned through songwriting is that writing a great song not only requires the ability to convert your thoughts and emotions into lines and verses, but many lifetime experiences as well. How can you write a great breakup song, for example, if you've never broken up with anyone and don't know the emotions that come with it?

Here's a short list of tips that might help:
1) Learn skills from more experienced songwriters by studying their lyrics.
2) Practice general writing.
3) Study all different kinds of music to expand your repertoire.
4) Expand your vocabulary.
5) When brainstorming, never hold back. Be as creative as you can be!

You could always just write about you're feelings, too. If you're sad for example, come up with ideas that symbolize sadness (rain, clouds, darkness, etc.)
This is where creativity becomes a huge part of songwriting (and any kind of writing!)

Summary: Creative ideas + writing and musical skills + life experiences = great song

i'll give my answer in steps, makes it easier to read.

step 1. warm up ur brain (reading or solving problems help)

step 2. get inspired (listen to loads of songs and pay attention to the lyrics)

step 3. think about the things that are bold in ur head, as in things that matter to u or u are passionate about. u have to have something to write about and know wot it is, otherwise u wont write that good.

step 4. dont force urself to write, just have a pen and paper ready and jot them dowm when the words come to u. u can even record ur voice with ur phone or save it as a text message when ur on the move.

well its not easy. what i do, is first come up with an idea of what u want ur song to be based on. For instance, if i was going to write a song on love, id go in a quiet room. Then close my eyes and imagine the person and everything that makes u love them.Let the memories flow through, and remember the best moments with that person. Same applies for other subjects. Also, I usually carry some kind of pen and notebook wtih me. If any ideas hit me, I writee them down right awazy. I can always add to it later. I also sometimes write my rough copy in a poem form first, its easier to get the ideas down. i hoped i helped.
