How To Write A Research Paper

Steven Said:

How do I write my thesis statement for this particular research paper?

We Answered:

If you're not trying to prove anything, don't try to write at all. Your thesis should say "I believe this and this is why..." figuratively.

From the prompt, it seems like you need to somehow address all the issues under one umbrella, the plague. That plague was a pretty big deal to still cause shivers down our spine. Try to prove how important or influential the plague was. Otherwise your essay will pretty much say "there was this plague, people died, and some decided to paint because they had nothing else to do."

How do you write research paper about macbeth?

We Answered:

Macbeth's character changes:

In Act I, Macbeth is presented a brave warrior who is a killing machine. That image is contrasted with the presentation of man who wants a better station in life. In Macbeth's own words, after he hears the witches' prophecies he says he has nothing but vaulting ambition to motivation. So, as a reader you should already know that Macbeth, although he is a thane, desires a more prestigious postion. However, his wife tells us, "He is too full of the milk of human kindness" to do anything to help himself rise above his circumstances and become king.

2) In Act III of the play, Macbeth has Banquo killed. In Act IV, he has the entire house of Macduff killed. Each of these murders occur without provocation. Thus, you get a change in character again. Banquo was his friend. The person with whom he fought back to back in battle and yet, he was able to kill Banquo because Banquo served as a threat to his place on the throne. Also, Macduff as a result of his treasonous act (Macbeth was the king and Macduff refused to acknowledge Macbeth as king) had to be killed in order to secure Macbeth's place as king. The man who full of the milk of human kindness is gone. As a matter of fact, he resorts to using the same tactics his wife used on him. He bullies the men into murdering Banquo by showing that the horrible lives they were living was due to Banquo.

In Act IV, you get the confidant Macbeth. Here he develops a false sense of secuirty as a result of the witches intervention again in his life. He receives news that borders on the impossible. The most telling, "No man of woman born can harm Macbeth" allows Macbeth to at last feel that his place on the throne is secure and that no one will ever harm him.

The play itself has several major themes:
The first being the notion of free will versus fate: Would Macbeth have ever become king if he had not done something to make it so. Despite his saying that he would do nothing, he later comes back and says that Malcolm being named Prince of Cumberland was an idea he could accept (a step on which I must kneel down) or take matters into his own hands and change it (or o'r leap).

How to write a research paper about WWII women as spies?

We Answered:

Are you required to have a thesis? Most research papers require a thesis (a theory like all women spies in wwII tended to be middle class) and then you do research and write the paper proving or disproving your theory (usually proving is your aim)

With this you start with a paragraph outlining the theory and what you will look at to provide the proof, then write the paper showing the proof in a chronological or sequential manner. Lastly you have a paragraph that states "you can see by the facts that show all women spies that made it through training and actually went out and were successful came from the middle class and that the lower class were given no chance and the upper class proved too inflexible enough for the disguises necessary" or something like that.

Referencing is very important. You need to cite when you quote and then use a page number but if paraphrasing you just use the reference, It can be a pain in the butt, especially when you are just learning it but it's important to acknowledge other people's work. You can install a program like Endnote that takes a lot of the hassle out of it. It will help you import refs from electronic articles, help you with in-text references and then totally format your reference list at the end of your paper. You should be able to buy the software from wherever you are studying and there are 'how to' guides all over the internet. Good luck.

How to Write a Research Paper???

We Answered:

Things You’ll Need:
all essential resources: Books, Internet, newspapers, encycolpedia's, etc.
3X5 Index Cards
a pen or pencil
a red pen
Highlighter
paper (if you're oldfashioned)- college ruled
A large open space like your bed, the floor, a large table.
some kind of word processor such as a computer or typwriter.

Step1
Gather all your resources (books, articles, internet site list, etc). It is always better to over research your subject area. You want more information than you need so you don't have to go back to the stacks repeatedly. Pare your paper at the editing stage.
Step2
Books:
Glance over your tables of contents.
If you have a stack of books to glean information from, don't be daunted, in most cases you only need to cherry-pick the information, not read the whole volume. Place an index card as a book marker.
Internet:
Print only truly relevant articles, this makes it easier to lay out your paper as you will see later.
Articles:
Highlight the pertinent information if you have photocopies. Don't forget to copy the newspaper name, date, volume, edition, article author, etc.
Step3
Put ONE fact/bit of information PER CARD. Not a paragraph. You will want to be able to arrange these cards in front of you later. On each card, reference where the information came from using the MLA format for run-in references.
Step4
Lay your cards out in front of you. Start by arranging them in the order you think they should appear in the BODY of your paper.
Step5
Write your introduction by stating your thesis- the main essence of what you are saying. Be simple and straight-forward.
Step6
Flesh out the body of your paper using your note cards. Place run-in references using the appropriate format. If you have a whole paragraph with information from just one source, you may put the reference at the end of the paragraph instead of at the end of every sentence.
Step7
Write your conclusion. Reiterate your main points. Draw your conculsions together. Refer back to your introduction where you stated your thesis. This will help you check that you stayed on topic throughout your paper.
Step8
Check for grammar and spelling errors.
Step9
Put together all the sources that you actually used in the paper and write your Works Cited page.
Step10
Editing:
Print out your paper and use the red pen to mark any places your spell and grammar check did not catch. There will ALWAYS be something!

Tips & Warnings
Get a good writer's manual. It will give you the APA and MLA formats. Or, I would recommend the following sites: MLA: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resour… and APA: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resour…

If you are a college student with a certain number of pages to fill, I find this strategy works to get you to your quota. If you need more pages, go back to your note cards.

Be very careful to cite where you got your information, and do it properly. If you plagiarize, you are stealing someone else's hard-won knowledge and work. You might be fined or kicked out of university in failing to do so. You also run the risk of losing credibility, which could haunt your professional career forever.

When using newspaper articles, the reference information might be scattered. Get all your information before you leave the library.

DO NOT HIGHLIGHT THE LIBRARY'S PROPERTY. Get a photocopy, when you legally can, then highlight to your heart's content.

Quality and quantity both count, as well as concise grammar, spelling and sentence structure. If you refer to your notes and give proper citations, you wont have to "B.S." your way through your paper.
