How do you write a CV?

We Answered:

Start by making a list of your accomplishments and awards, if any, separating academic awards from extracurricular awards. Put the most recent first.

Then make a list of your work experience if any, even part time, and bullet your skills and job responsibilities. Again, most recent first.

Then prepare a list of references, with contact information.

After you do all that, read it through a few times, because you probably forgot some big award that you received!

After you have all this information, you can format it with headings. Make sure the fonts are consistent between all the headings and body content. Check and double check your spelling and grammar.

My husband is an HR executive with a Fortune 500 company, and he told me that if they receive resumes with poor spelling and grammar, they just throw it away.

You can easily google CVs or how to write a resume for instructions and various formats. The CV can look a bit less formal, but a formal format is fine, too. Or ask at your school job placement office for some samples.

Discuss It!
