Can you help me write a covering letter to a potential employer? We Answered:
I believe that you should type your cover letter just like you did with your resume. If your penmenship is not good, a hand written cover letter could be hard to read by someone else. The cover letter should be only one page long. It should be addressed to the person who does the hiring. Call ahead for this persons name. If you can't find out a name, then address it to "Hiring Manager".
The first paragraph should indicate what job you are applying for and how you found out about the job.
The second paragraph should mention that your resume is attached. Also explain why you are qualified by summarizing only those facts in your resume that directly apply to the job that you are applying for. It would be great if you list one or two accomplishments of how you helped your previous employer.
The third paragraph should ask them to contact you if they have any questions. I also like to add "Thank you for your time and consideration."
End the cover letter with "Sincerely", followed by your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
