1 -Date

2 - Name and full address

3 - Re: You can put the subject of the letter. This is OPTIONAL.

4 - Salutation: Use first and last name of the addressee. Only use “To whom it may concern” if your letter is a blanket letter to be used for more than one person.

5 - 1st Paragraph: State how you know this person.

6 - 2nd Paragraph: State what you know about the person. If a personal reference, how you know them personally. If a job reference, state what you know about how they relate to the job for which they apply. The person will have told you for which type positions they plan to apply.

7 - 3rd Paragraph: Summarize how you feel about this person. If a personal reference, state how you like this person. If for business purposes, state how you feel they are qualified according to what you know about their qualification.

8 - Close with “Sincerely.”

9 - Your name

10 - Your title, if this will help the person for whom you write the letter.

It's probably best if someone other then a his own parents wrote the refernce, some one like a school teacher, coach, family friend, employer.
The letter needs to contain that they know what he did and that it's out of character for the person and that there is hope of reform or list what has been done to show refrom.
The courts are looking for signs of reform.

You just wrote one. It's just a letter to the Judge telling him what you think of this woman. I would include how you know her, and how long you have been friends.

I wrote one of one of my friends. I introduced myself, and went about telling him about her. Where we meet, and how great of a person she is, what a good mother she is. How the kids are treated, and that this was the right thing to do. Just explain from your heart your feelings and reasons why. The Judge will be able to learn more about her thru your letter.

I am sorry you are losing a friend by this move. But I too, lost one because she had a good opportunity and she couldn't pass it up. That's one good thing about computers, you can keep in touch. Thank you for helping this woman out, it's hard to see her move, but we have to do things sometimes that we don't want to. Be sure to get an address book for her, and get all the friends to write their addresses, and phone numbers for her. That way she can keep in touch...
