Executive Resume Writing

Jimmie Said:

how to write a comprehensive resume for a position of business executive?

We Answered:

Whatever you do, don't lie on your resume. I would go to an internet search engine and search for "comprehensive resume" and see what pops up, then try and reproduce the look of the resume, but with your information. My business teacher always told me to use numbers.

Example: Generated business files. Instead say: Generated 100 business files in one week. (or something to this effect).

Good Luck, be positive, and you go get that job!

I am writing my first resume. Any advice on how to do it? How it should look etc? I have a job interview?

We Answered:

Besides setting all margins to 1", the most important criteria for setting up a professional resume besides relevant text, is "scanability." Here are some helpful tips:

1. Place just below your identification header [your hame, address, phone, email address] any Conditional Warning Statement such as "Confidential Resume,"Do Not Contact Current Employer," etc.
2. Always fill-in an Objectives category [just below the Conditional Warning Statement] and make sure that he Objective will contribute to the profitability of your future employer;
3. Select a mono-type font such as Helvetica, Arial, Courier or Times Roman; do not select any cursive handwriting styles which cannot scanned;
4. Keep font sizes within a range of 10 to 12 pts.;
5. Avoid styling text with a justified alignment, keep it flushed left;
6. Instead of using tabs to set up blocked text entries, generate a table and use the column and row settings accordingly;
7. Do not place an i.d. picture anywhere on the resume, this is a major taboo due to discrimination issues;
8. Do not place any graphic text [saved as .gifs] onto the resume since it may be overlooked during the scanning phase;
9. List at the very end of the resume your interests which should include travel experiences, language skills, social interactions such as golf, team sports, tennis, etc.

In conclusion, the above helpful hints were designed to allow ease of scanning of your resume into PDF which can then be text captured for seach purposes by your potential employer. If the original resume was created in Word, WordPerfect or Mac Appleworks, it can be Saved As a PDF file which then can be saved as an email attachment. Otherwise, you can simply use a scanner and scan a hard copy of the resume and then save as a PDF file.

Failure to conform the resume to appropriate fonts and styles as outlined above will result in rejection of the resume simply due to the inability of the scanning device to properly index relevant resume entries.

Good luck!

Is it considered inappropriate or bad form to include your IQ on your resume?

We Answered:

NO!!!!!!!!!!! Do not include it.

It's not that it's immodest, but it makes you look completely ignorant.

Effective executives possess a myriad of qualities (such as charisma, creativity, ability to provide leadership, etc.) and when you accentuate your IQ it implies you lack understanding of the complexity of the position and the interpersonal skills required to perform successfully.

I've been hiring people with advanced degrees (and high IQs) for almost two decades. Some are truly exceptional in their ability to be "effective" in the work place and others are virtually useless.

Intelligence in and of itself is not a quality that predicts a person's ability to perform successfully.

Exceptional candidates will illustrate how their intelligence (and other qualities) will help the company or organization reach it's goals.

May I have some help with my Resume? Executive Assistant?

We Answered:

Below are some websites for you to look at. Not knowing the specific area of the country and jobs you are finding it is difficult to tell you how your resume should look and why you are not getting any calls. I would suggest starting by printing all the job descriptions you have been applying for out and comparing how your resume answers those requirements. If it doesn't make the appropriate changes. I would also make sure you have put together a great cover letter that provides a eye catching synopsis of why you are what they are looking for to fill this position. Prepare yourself for interviews and asking for the job once you get the interview. I wish you all the best. Good luck

Luis Said:

what is expected salary for executive trainee?

We Answered:

It really depends on experience, the company, and where you live. There are some good salary estimators online if you want to explore that - they give estimated expected salaries and benefits based on averages in that area. You could try plugging in your sister's info in these salary wizards:

http://salary.com/

http://career-advice.monster.com/salary-…

http://cbsalary.com/

The basic info is free, you just have to click on "no thanks" if they try to make you offers.

By the way, I am not sure what your sister's plan is, but I never like to put any salary info on my resume. I save that for after I've interviewed in person or had the job offered to me - then it is negotiating time :)

Discuss It!
