In a resume, should descriptions of job responsibilities be in present or past tense?

We Answered:

Actually, you should keep all verbs in either past tense or present. It really doesn't matter which as long is it is consistent throughout the resume.

Stephen Said:

criminal justice on report writing.?

We Answered:

Fact based reporting means just like Joe Friday used to say "just the facts". As in not putting the author's opinions into the report. Initial reports at least always need to be strictly fact based.

How to properly report a troll?

We Answered:

If I believe a person is a troll and I report it, I write the details about why in the report box. Sometimes it's a judgment call and it would give YA more information to go on. Is the Randy Jackson user you asked really a troll? YA's definition of a troll is someone who posts inflammatory questions or who works behind the scenes to target someone, say by setting up more than one account and giving a user more than one thumbsdown. Writing a terribly worded question or even asking a ridiculous one wouldn't necessarily make the guy a troll. Maybe it would. That's their call, so just report it. There must be 1000's of Randy Jackson's in the US.

You won't get a violation if you report it and YA decides the user isn't a troll. Your "trusted reporter status" will be diminished and they won't take you as seriously if you over report suspected trolls. If you consistently targeted someone as a troll who wasn't, they could consider you a troll by targeting the person behind the scenes, but it would take so much, that isn't really a risk.

It's a violation to just answer with "TROLL!". YA doesn't want you to publicly call out the troll, because as they see it it encourages troll-like behavior. Trolls do it for the attention and calling them out is attention. Personally I agree, I think it's like feeding seagulls. Of course they're going to follow your boat if you give them foods. It also violates the Q and A structure on YA. No matter how silly the question, if you post, it has to be an attempt to answer it.

I don't think YA does a particularly good job of enforcing it's rules of conduct. Name calling is rampant, and people get away with it. There are point gamers in every thread with multiple accounts to vote for themselves. And then there's the spammers ..... But that's my opinion; It's YA's site and they can enforce or ignore their rules as they please. I've seen a troll account or two in the parenting section that are hysterical. They poke fun at the perfect moms and know-it-alls who can get a bit obnoxious. Kind of like a satirical TV show. Eventually YA will get rid of them, as they should, but they are good for a laugh.

So I report obvious trolls and I write why. I also report other violations, but usually only if it's a consistent pattern of violations by a user. Always rude, always calling out others etc. I figure I'll be taken more seriously if I don't try to be the YA police, but report obvious violators.

Melissa Said:

Which of the following is an example of subjective writing? I REALLY NEED HELP!?

We Answered:

Editorials are subjective (are based on opinion, not fact).

"I came, I saw, I conquered" is a good example of parallel structure.

I shopped, looked at expensive things, and after a while went home ==> this sentence is also correctly written in parallel structure as all the verbs are conjugated in the same tense, but it loses some impact or effectiveness because the phrase, "after a while," interrupts the rhythm of the thought. It's technically correct, but not as effective.
