Any Microsoft Word will do. I think Microsoft Works will work too, as long as you save your file as a .doc format (Word 97-2003)

Or if you prefer .html, any html editor will do. There are free html editors floating around the web, Frontpage is a good one. Dreamweaver has a free trial version, I think. Or, if you know how to code html from scratch, you can even use Notepad and save it as .html (but it's really tedious using Notepad, I wouldn't recommend it).

My absolute favorite is Scrivener. It's not free but they have a trial. If that's not enough, I have also used Open Office, Neo Office, Voodoo Pad, and Writer's Cafe. A few of those are free or shareware. Also, it's not hard at all to find writing software. Google has found me hundreds of interesting programs.

My creative writing software lies between my ears. I wouldnt use any of it and i wouldnt work with a student who was. All you need is Word and your brain. You dont even need final draft - Word formats your manuscript just fine. If you need to rely on software to help you write a book, you arent an author. You are just a user of software. Nathaniel Hawthorne managed to write amazing books without software. So did James Faulkner, Ernest Hemingway, F Scott Fitzgerald, Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, and hundreds of other authors I could mention. If you are just writing for the fun of doing it, use your software. But if you are writing for publication and ever intend to be in their league, prove to yourself you can write on your own. It's not a bad thing to order on-line, plus, on-line shopping is very comfortable and easy...more easy than going to an store and buy from there (that's my oppion, cause i'm a little bit lazy).
