Creative Writing Contests

Sue Said:

Does anyone know of a good creative writing site with info on contests and markets and writing exercises...?

We Answered:

Yes, it would probably be impossible to find all this info on just one site. It's just way too much ;) The site I like for good creative writing markets info is http://creativewritingsurvivalguide.com/ . It has fresh lists of paying fiction markets and general trivia about the creative writer's life. And for creative writing exercises and prompts I like to visit this site http://creativewritingideasandprompts.co… It's still pretty new, but has some fun creative writing prompts on there already.

Hope this helps!

Tamara Said:

What are some good, reputable contests & publications for teens interested in Creative Writing?

We Answered:

You need to get a copy of Writer's Market. It will suggest various places where you can send your stories, It also has a section devoted to contests. They do a good job of screening the contests so that if it's in Writer's Market, you can be fairly certain it's legitimate. Good luck. Oh, try to get the most recent edition you can find.

legit college creative writing courses in california AND creative writing contests?

We Answered:

The best writing contest in the country is Writers of the Future, but it's for SF/F writers. On the Premises holds a writing contest quarterly.

Why limit yourself to just California?

Does anyone know of creative writing contests with no entry fee and cash prizes?

We Answered:

hi!! thanks for answering my question!!

I know one, which me and my friend are entering (but im sure that won't matter ;)) too. it is not a poetry contest (definitely) and the cash prize is £500 (not sure how much in dollars) and a couple of other stuff. here is the site with the info: http://www.writersandartists.co.uk/short…

and here is the list of rules: http://www.writersandartists.co.uk/short…

also it has to be under 2,000 words and to suit the theme 'complusion'. it says it all in the rules.

(sorry if this come up more than once, my computer went a bit spazzy so i had to write it again).

im not sure if it is in New York so you must check the rules, but good luck anyway!!

it is no entry fee but i think you have to have an account on some site (im not sure, so you'll have to check the rules)

ps: the closing date is 14 february so get writing and good luck!! xx

Shelly Said:

Please help me - I really need creative writing contests. Anyone know of any?

We Answered:

Ask your local library. That's how I get involved in mine. The ones I enter are free too, but it's unlikely that winners will recieve a cash prize for a free contest.

EDIT: Sorry if it doesn't help, but your library should know of any local contests- mine knows of lots of them and I live in Long Island, New York. It's not my fault if a free contest doesn't give out cash prizes, but maybe you can get lucky or something and they're having one that does. Just check.
