Creative Writing Classes
Thelma Said:
Does your high school have creative writing classes? We Answered:
We had creative writing classes and journalism in junior high and I loved those courses. My teacher had us participate in contests, too so that was an added bonus. In high school, when we finally got a creative writing course, the teacher was not as nice or as good at being a creative writing teacher as the junior high teacher was. She was very biased and strict so the creative juices could not flow under her dictates. Many people got poor grades in her class, poor being a "c" grade.
This is a topic that is needed but with budget cuts all over it may not be funded. Look at the charter schools and see if any go for performing arts or television/radio production which would permit a creative writing teacher to teach.
In all honesty, a good English teacher is a creative writing teacher because teaching English involves writing themes, stories, poems, and even plays.

What do they teach in Creative Writing classes? We Answered:
Everybody does it differently. I have taken a few classes over the years. One focused on looking at individual elements of creating writing. For example, we'd spend a week working on setting. Another we'd work on setting tone. Other focuses included voice, character, plot.. exercises focusing on individual elements and towards the end we were given the chance to work on a produce things that embodied all of these things on our own.
Another class i took was 100% workshopping. The class made a schedule, so that during the semester each person had to produce 2 to 3 pieces (about 10 pages each) to bring to the class. Everybody worked on their stuff at home, and the class time was spent simply work shopping.

creative writing summer classes for junior in high school? We Answered:
talk to a counselor at your local community/junior college, or check out their class sched online. They all offer summer classes and you could even get college credit for taking it. However, you may have to take English Comp I and maybe II before you can take Creative Writing.Gwendolyn Said:
what kinds of things would you like to see addressed in your Freshman-Sophomore creative writing classes? We Answered:
my school doesn't have any creative writing classes. i would love it if it did.i would think besides of course actually writing, like start with small simple excercises to get you going and stuff and give plots to expand on and stuff. We've done two things this year that were kinda fun with creative writing, the first was towards the beginning of the year, we were given a sentence, and we got in groups, and each member of the group wrote another sentence, and we continued like that for a while. it was pretty cool, specailly if you have a bunch of really creative people, so i'd suggest picking the groups instead of the students. i got put with girls i din't know well and had different ideas from cause all the other groups were full, and so it was nice to see their styles and all.
and what we're doing now, kinda like fanfiction almost, we're reading a book in class "In the Time Of The Butterflies" and we have to make up a character and insert it into the story. he gave us a bunch of things on character development and stuff. I've been procastinatiing on the actual homework aspect of it of course, but yesterday we wrote in class and i loved it. it's fun to just flesh out charactrs sometimes, even if i'm not sure where my plot is going with it really....
oh, and when you say freshmen and sophmores, you don't mean together do you??? i would not be able to stand being in a class with freshmen for creative writing.... -_-
hm, well, hope i was of some help. ^_^

I want to be an author/writer/novelist. What classes other than creative writing can I take?We Answered:
If you're interested in fiction, an English degree would probably help you in some regards, and be most interesting for you to study. More than that, though, read everything you can get your hands on and write constantly. Professors will help you hone your skill but you have to have something to show them first. Also, read "On Writing" by Steven King. He has great advice with everything from finding an agent to the basics of writing. I just read it for my creative writing class & I really enjoyed it.

Where can I find creative writing classes in the Bay Area?We Answered:
There's an internet site know as "meetup.com" that has all sorts of groups and clubs on it. You can either join or contact them to find out what they're up to. Yes, these clubs exist in the East Bay as well. Finally, anyone who hasn't heard of the Bay Area per se must have spent the better part of their lives hiding-out somewhere in the whiles of 'never-never land'. :)

What Do You Do In Creative Writing Classes? We Answered:
I am enrolled in a creative writing class offered through my local college, and we actually have quite a bit of fun. The teacher requires us to write a piece of original fiction and bring it in to class each week. Sometimes we have to bring a poem, sometimes a short story, and other times we get to choose what we bring. Then, we basically just get in a big circle and take turns reading and critiquing each others work. It is a very wonderful class. The teacher keeps the atmosphere positive by having us say something we liked about the work first, and then we get into what needs to be improved. I think that creative writing workshops are beneficial to writers at any level. Hell, even Stephen King goes through the workshop process before he publishes his novels. So if you're interested, find one and join :)
