College Writing Skills

James Said:

Why do people expect college level writing skills & grammar on internet blogs?

We Answered:

I guess you have a point. Some people I guess don't like the language being butchered. I think what really bothers most people is when you see a garbled bunch of letters that is barely understandable. There are different levels of being able to understand.

For me, however, it puts off the attitude that the author of the post didn't care enough to use proper punctuation and that is probably how said person writes most of the time. I know its not necessarily true, but that's my knee-jerk reaction.

For the record, the level of writing in the question is fine for me. I just see some garbled stuff out there and that annoys me.

How can I improve my writing skills for a college course?

We Answered:

firstly you need to ask yourself the question of what materials are you reading. Sure you may love to read but are the books you're reading ones that contain proper and influential vocabulary that you should be using in ur writing as a college student? If not, change your reading material, try somethng a little more indepth , with more tense vocabulary etc. This may not necessarily be boring books but try some thrillers, inspirational stuff, even encyclopedias if the need arises! Trust me these things help. I would actually reccommend you read a book on improving writing skills, it would certainly help. Once you've changed ur reading material, you'll realizze that you're working on ur problem even when relaxing!
Secondly try choosing a topic you'd expect to have to write a college paper on. Then break whatever topic that is into several small parts so that it seems really easy and beneath even your level of writing. Once you've dne that write on all those small pieces than pice them together again to form the entire college paper. Read this paper over and make whatever changes you may need to, add big words, take out grammatical errors whatever it may be. You'll be surprised how breaking hings down this simply can get you really far.
Practice this for a while then eventually you'll get better. Afetr a couple attempts try writing a college paper on your own wihout braking it down first. Keep all ur work and refer back to them.
And you should keep reading those great books! Get a lecturer or friend or parent to just check things over as well. You've got the will, so as long as you do the work- you'll succeed. happy writing!

College Writing Skills with Readings 6th Edition by John Langan(Instructor Edition)?

We Answered:

May I ask why you need the instructor edition? If you are a college professor, you should know where to find your books.

Otherwise, you'd be doing yourself a favor to get the student edition. If you just look at the answer key, you won't learn anything. Learning is the whold point of going to school, so you'd be wasting your time.

You'd most likely need to purchase it directly from the publisher and they'd probably make you prove that you are actually an instructor...

Hope this helps and best of luck to you!
