There are many types of writing styles, for e.g. feature writing - where you'll read in a travel magazine, or news writing - where you'll read in a newspaper article.

Business documents have a style of writing. If in doubt, you can always clarify with the employer on what exactly he wants. Are they looking at a sample business document or a memo or an email?

in Microsoft word, look at the toolbar, you should see 3 little buttons like the ones for Bold, Italics, etc. that have lines through them. on one the lines seem to all be from the left, on the next all in the middle and on the last one all on the right. click the one on the left to start your paper or if you have already written some, highlight all the text using CTRL - A and then click on the left button.

Fact of the matter is, how you react is your buisness writing! and yes they also want to see if you have a buisness card or family money backing.

If their joking with you then its a good thing, means your not a threat to them.

A business writing sample (without know what type of job you are applying for) could be an example of a business letter that you have drafted or written. They would be looking at formatting (if it is a clerical job) and also that you have a good command of the English language. Too many people are out looking for jobs and can't spell or write well - even though they graduated from high school.
