Annie Said:

Does anybody know a good book-writing software to buy or download?

We Answered:

Most authors use Microsoft Word.
What is wrong with it?
Does it make some sort of chemically unstable virus to launch itself onto your document and devour it in a matter of seconds... No? Didn't think so.

I use Microsoft Word... so does JK Rowling as a matter of fact.

Bruce Said:

Where can I find a good, free, book writing software?

We Answered:

I agree OpenOffice would be great. Just invest some time into learning how to use the word processor (write), and its advanced features for formatting (I guess that is what you want). For instance, you can use "styles", and I think that if you decide later you want (or need) to change one style, it will change automatically all the paragraphs with that style all over the document.

What is the best technical book writing software?

We Answered:

The best in terms of price/performance has got to be LaTeX. It's free and is widely used to write lots of scientific papers and books.

If you have a Linux system, you have it already. On Windows there are several free distributions. I use MikTex.

If you have only used WYSIWYG systems like Word, getting started with LaTeX may be a culture shock, but stick with it. There are plenty of tutorials on the Web.
