Vernon Said:

what 3 things can I talk about when I'm writing a persuasive essay on Gun control?

We Answered:

There are over 22,000 laws on the books right now "controlling" guns. The only thing they have done is to make it easier for the criminally minded to perpetuate their heinous acts on a helpless citizenry.
Gun control needs to be looked at in a completely different way that it is right now. The general public's perception of guns, and the manner in which firearms are portrayed in the media has got to stop.
This is something that won't happen overnight, but will take YEARS of concerted effort to bring about.
Gun control begins with education. Instead of teaching 3rd graders how to put a condom on a cucumber, we should be teaching them how to field strip an AR-15. The 10 commandments of gun safety should be taught at the same time as the ABC's.
Our children should be taught that guns are TOOLS, and are to be respected as such.
Once the youth of America are in the right mind about firearms, a lot of the spin, propaganda, and just plain old BS the so called elite media and politicians try spooning us, will be discounted out of hand by an educated populace. The saying "That dog don't hunt" will have new meaning.
Next step, crime control. Note I said CRIME control, not gun control. The short and sweet of it is this- An ARMED populace = less crime.
There is NO WAY of EVER, stopping someone from obtaining a firearm if they truly want one. Period.
HOWEVER, if the repercussions of using that firearm in a nefarious manner are deemed to be so great (due to an armed, knowledgeable, and proficient citizenry), as to outweigh the perceived gain one might get through it's use, then that ladies and gentleman is the one purest form of gun control I can think of.

With regards to mass murders committed in this country, guns are a poor substitute for the following: $1.50 worth of gasoline ( Happy land Massacre, Bronx, NY ), $110 truck rental fee, and $500 worth of ammonium nitrate and some diesel fuel ( Oklahoma City Federal Building ), or $500 worth of flight lessons and a first class airfare ticket ( September 11, 2001 )
Also think about this for a minute: How long did it take the police to respond to the 911 calls at Columbine and Virginia Tech? If but ONE SINGLE person had been armed, trained, and proficient in the use of a handgun, how many High School and College students lives would have been spared. "When seconds count, the Police are but minutes away!!"
According to a study done by Florida State Professor and Criminologist Dr. Gary Kleck, citizens defend themselves over 1,000,000 times each year with legally owned firearms. Most of the time no shots are fired and the mere presence of a firearm discourages the would be criminal from continuing to perpetrate a crime.
Where has today's version of gun control worked? Well look at the cities that have embraced draconian gun laws. Detroit, Washington D.C., New York, Chicago. These cities have a virtual ban on personal firearm ownership, and yet the crime rates in these cities is far greater than in cities that have Right to Carry laws. A look at the FBI's data tells the story quite clearly. After each of these cities enacted their laws, Homicides in these municipalities went up, and up, and up. In communities where right to carry laws have been enacted, felonies, homicides, and rapes have all gone down. Has anyone ever wondered why all these horrible shooting occur in so called "gun free zones" but never at a gun shop or firing range? I mean if guns are the problem, wouldn't it stand to reason that the most likely place they would cause harm is where they are located in the greatest numbers? Think about it!
To the the people who have posted the lame and completely disproved mantra that a gun is 22 times more likely to cause injury in the home... yada yada yada...... I'll ask you this: Where is your concern for swimming pool control? Where are your demands for childproof locks on all swimming pools, waiting periods and proficiency classes? Foolish? The number of childhood deaths by drowning in the family swimming pool as opposed to being shot with the family gun is almost 2 to one, and believe me, there are a LOT more guns in America than there are swimming pools.
Still not convinced? Put yourself in the place of a burglar/ junky, in need of a fix. He finds himself on a street with two houses, both of which obviously have their owners at home. The front door of each house have signs on them. The first house has signs that read " This house protected by Smith & Wesson" and " I don't dial 911, I reload ". The next house has signs that read " Proud supporter of the Brady Bill ", and " No guns allowed ". Honestly, which house do you think he will force entry into and try to rob?

Justin Said:

A good question to ask when writing a persuasive essay on Homelessness?

We Answered:

How about "Should the Government provide healthcare for the homeless?"

Make sure that whatever question you decide on, you (personally) have a clear answer/opinion on it. If you are wishy-washy on your answer to your own question, you will have a hard time being persuasive.

Discuss It!
