Writing Essay Papers

Vera Said:

When writing an a paper/essay how do you write movie titles?

We Answered:

Underline books, magazines, newspapers, CDs, feature-length movies, and other long literary works.

Short literary works employ quotation marks.
examples: the title of a magazine article, a short story, a chapter in a book, or some other short literary work such as a poem.
Don't get upset. Some teachers have their own preferences.

Charlene Said:

This is weird but I am good at writing essay papers but not at writing stories? or at least I think?

We Answered:

So you're write novels instead of short stories. Nothing wrong with that.

Dustin Said:

Is there a more reliable paper writing company than Essay Paper.net for college level papers?

We Answered:

*sigh* There aren't any reliable sources when it comes to essay writing sites. They plagiarize content and, more practically, they're easily discovered by your profs, who are now able to use various software to help when identifying plagiarists. If you're unfamiliar with how plagiarism can destroy your academic career, read up and become knowledgeable quickly. It's a title that can follow you from class to class, institution to institution -- don't allow yourself to be branded with this sort of name. Instead, do your own work. That's what you're in school for, after all.

how should i start writing my essay paper?

We Answered:

You could start your essay with something like this:

The play "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry tells the story of an African American family who tries to make their dreams come true when the mother of the family receives a $10,000 check in the mail. There are many themes in the play, A Raisin in the Sun; among them are strength of family, dreams, and prejudice.

Is it alright for me to use gender neutral pronouns while writing papers for college?

We Answered:

Do not use s/he in a formal paper, and do not use him/her.

I have no problem with the generic "he," even though I'm female, but I sometimes switch pronouns within the body of an article. At one point, I may use "she," at another "he". I'm more likely to choose one pronoun and stick to it throughout in a piece of formal writing as differentiated from a more casual article.

The one thing you should avoid is mixing plural pronouns with singular verbs. Many people use "they" to avoid the problem you describe, but this usually results in awkwardness.

"One" is considered a bit stilted in American English, though there are situations in which it is acceptable.

If the paper is for a female professor, and you have reason to think she might object to the generic "he," then use the generic "she." Personally, I don't care which pronoun a student uses, as long as the grammar is correct.
