Writing An Argumentative Essay

Derrick Said:

Writing Argumentative Essay about should smoking be banned?

We Answered:

Cons of smoking:

1. Leads to diseases such as emphysema and lung cancer.
2. Causes second-hand smoking that kills thousands a year.
3. Nicotine in cigarettes is addicting and makes it difficult to quit smoking.

Each good argumentative essay should have an argument that could be used to attack your essay. An argument like that would be something like cigarette companies gain lots of revenue and provide jobs and money for those that need it.

Catherine Said:

Does anyone have an idea of how to a approach to writing an argumentative essay?

We Answered:

Argumentative??? Sure my...my father in law
LoL...sorry...he's really getting on my nerves right now

You could approach it from the standpoint of the good that comes out of it, i.e. lottery funded educational programs, how it boosts the local economy, and so forth

good luck--hope that helps

If you are writing an argument you have to read about the bill. It is too encompassing to write about here. Just take parts of the summaries from these websites and write something up. One is the government site, the other is a health research foundation.

Dana Said:

Can anyone help me writing an argumentative essay thesis of reforming the financial system of the United State?

We Answered:

One argument would be: Why does the government have the right to interfere in businesses? The US government has only touched business twice in history: Railroads and Airport towers. Both times were to save lives. Now we have a liberal president telling companies what they will and will not do. Think also about this. There were companies and banks that didn't want the bailout money. When they refused, the government threatened to shut them down.

So, by what power does the government have to interfere in private bonuses and pay?

Gloria Said:

I'm thinking of writing an argumentative essay on banned books. What are some of the important issues?

We Answered:

Try this website:

http://www.adlerbooks.com/banned.html

For as long as there has been literature, there have been individuals trying to prohibit access to literature. The term "challenged book" refers to a book that has, for whatever reason, been considered by one of more people to be inappropriate, and its removal from library shelves has been requested. A "banned book" on the other hand is a challenged book that has actually been removed from the shelves.

Books are often challenged or banned due to an individual or group of individuals considering the book to be controversial, immoral, inappropriate, sexually explicit, divisive, corrupt, vulgar, violent, or even wicked. Unfortunately, challenged and banned books are often valuable, classic works of literature. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton are just a few of the many books that have been challenged or banned.

Carole Said:

Does this mean I have to write an argumentative essay?

We Answered:

yeah, pretty much
you're just arguing what impact one of the technological innovations have
you should definitely write this in third person unless your teacher told you otherwise :)

also, if that's true about nuclear power plants, you could say that, but i think you're supposed to focus on just one of them
so if you wanted to include that statement, i wouldn't make it your thesis but one of the main points
like your thesis would be how it allowed other technologies to make it to the market faster or something like that AND like how it cut down on pollution blablabla but also probs should inclue radiation

but like i said, you should just focus on one of the technologies, like cars, and say how that impacts/has impacted modern society
you don't necessarily have to pick which one you think is most important, but just one from the list

i would first write an outline and then start your essay
then youll have a better idea of how to organize it and what to put for your intro

good luck :)

also ask your teacher to look at what you have if you want more feedback :)

Discuss It!
