Writing A Compare And Contrast Essay
Billie Said:
I am writing a compare/contrast essay on woman today and woman 100 years ago.. any ideas on where to start? We Answered:
Start by thinking about what you know about women 100 years ago. Think especially about what you learned in class. You can do a little research. Think up some issues or events you know about. Woman sufferage, family and health care. Maybe even look up a famous person from the time. Then you can sit down and make a list of what was different and what was the same for women then and now. Come up with an opinion whether the changes are more important or the similarities, and write your essay by both acknowledging the opposite opinion, and supporting your own.

Help writing compare/contrast essay, help me! Writer's Block!?We Answered:
First of all, figure out your opinion. You still need a thesis in a compare contrast essay, so are they the same or different, in what way, and what does that affect? I don't know the length, but I generally go very specific: the more particular, the better. Be creative. Find some little detail and examine how it just makes or breaks how they are alike or not.Of course, you have to have some of both similarities or differences. Still, don't contradict yourself...
I'm about to start my essay for my Comparative Lit class (which, of course, must be a compare/contrast essay, go figure). The course material is folk and fairy tales, so my idea right now is to take the Grimm brothers and compare them to Disney, because they did all the terrible things that Disney is doing now, just in the 1800s. So, I'm taking two versions of a fairytale and examining the intent of the writer and the damage it has done to the tradition. Or something like that.
Anyway, it's almost like an argumentative essay, so the more interested you are in the topic, the better. And trust me, you can make ANYTHING interesting.
Unfortunately, I'm unfamiliar with both of those works, so can't be more specific. My best advice is don't compare some major theme. Pick something totally random and out there. It's way more interesting. I assume you can use secondary sources, so even go into the authors. Into the purpose of the writings, the inspiration for them. Something interesting! Something you don't already know. Or if you're not into research, really pick apart each and find something very particular that you can expand on. Something that would be fun is, if you say the stories are similar, go totally against that. Say how they're nothing alike aside from minor details. Devils advocate, right?
Have fun!! And good luck! Essay writing doesn't need to be as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

What are 3 good points that I can use in writing a compare/contrast essay about Woman Rights? We Answered:
Hi there.Found this, hope its of some help to you.Women's voting rights became an issue in the 19th century, especially in Britain and the U.S. In the U.S. the woman suffrage movement arose from the antislavery movement.
equal opportunities in education, employment, and pay, self-determination on issues such as contraception, and abortion, improved public facilities for child care, tightening of legal sanctions against violence against women whether in the public or the private sphere, and an end to discrimination on grounds of sexuality, race, religion, and ethnicity.
women's movement
Or the Women's Liberation Movement (WLM), which has had multiple agenda for women, comprising: equal opportunities in education, employment, and pay, self-determination on issues such as contraception, and abortion, improved public facilities for child care, tightening of legal sanctions against violence against women whether in the public or the private sphere, and an end to discrimination on grounds of sexuality, race, religion, and ethnicity. The title of the movement was consciously adopted in the 1960s to move away from the objectification of women in political discourse as was represented by the construction of ‘the woman question’. WLM drew its inspiration from the American New Left movement and represented a general shift in the radical political discourse of the time from a rights-based political language to one based on concepts of ‘oppression’ and ‘liberation’ and of activism. WLM depended on pooling women's lived experiences, and politicizing them through consciousness-raising programmes of meetings, demonstrations, exhibitions, and so forth. WLM, while challenging the frameworks of power within which women are oppressed in different contexts, also emphasized working within the system. This position led many radical feminists to dissociate themselves from WLM.

Paragraph one should be an introduction. The next few should describe the similarities.

Writing A Compare/Contrast Essay?We Answered:
Compare means what the two have that's alike, while contrast means their differences. It sounds like you're on the right track. It's okay to say both books or pieces use characters, diction and imagery to convey their story lines, but ultimately they use them in different ways. That's identifying both a likeness and a difference. Are there any other comparison (or like-aspects)? Sounds like you're fine with the contrasting stuff. Are they from the same time frame? Do they use certain character types in similar ways? Do they use settings or backdrops in similar ways? Do both pieces use humor or irony or satire or something of the sort? In other words, just dig around a little more and you might find a few more similarities to mention.
