Tips On Writing An Essay

Leo Said:

Tips on writing an essay for a teenage audience?

We Answered:

For a teenage audience, try to add the following:

- include informal language, and colloquialisms - i.e. slang and words you would not expect in a formal piece of writing
- relate ideas which many teenagers think of often - so instead of talking about politics, which relates to adults, maybe talk about video games or teenage love
- use short paragraphs or some form of writing in which it is not just a big block of writing. Perhaps use pictures to stimulate teenagers attention, or a comic font - but most teenagers will be put off when seeing a large big block of text
- include the audience and use persuasive techniques - use of 'our' and 'we' involves the audience and will persuade them better to agree with your ideas

I hope this helps you :)

Any hints or tips for writing an essay in an hour and a half with no tools?

We Answered:

im assuming youre using a computer and/or word processor of some sort. if that's the case, then i would suggest writing an outline. number your paragraphs 1-5, then put bullet points underneath of what you want to say or include. then, just start writing on the outline. delete each bullet point and replace with a full sentence or two (or three or four etc) and that way, you can have your thoughts sorted and you wont have to waste as much time with organization. good luck!

Tips for writing an essay on the spot?

We Answered:

The first tip is: don't panic. The way to not panic is to have a good plan and to be methodical. Don't dive right away into the essay without some preparation. In fact, preparation is the key. The less time you have, the more preparation is important. If you are given 30 minutes for the essay, set aside 5-7 minutes to prepare, and try not to rush that part!

OK, so how do you prepare? Think about the topic that you are given in the exam. On a scratch piece of paper, quickly come up with as many things about that topic as you can think of. Then select about 3 (at least 2) of those that you feel you can write a quick paragraph on. Then think about how you will attack the topic, and that will be your opening paragraph. Finally, decide on what conclusion you are going to arrive at. When you are done, you should have about 5 short sentences that summarize your essay: the opening paragraph, the main body consisting of 2 or 3 supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. Now that you have the essay all laid out, go at it! You'd be amazed at how confidently you will write once you've organized your thoughts beforehand! Good luck!

Tips on writing an essay introduction?

We Answered:

Tell them what you are going to do and how you are going to do it.

I always write mine last. I look through the essay, make a note of the main points then put them in the introduction and say how I intend on reaching those points. Make sure it does relate to the question and re phrase the question in your introduction

Good luck.
