To me this is the very best way to get your mind working and coming up with what to write!
On a blank sheet of paper, draw a large circle. In the middle of the circle draw a straight line. On this line write your topic. Now WHATEVER comes into your mind, jot it down within that circle. Do this as long as time will allow...THEN, you are ready to write your essay.
This is what I do and it works for me. Here is a web site that suggests the layout be a little different. Whatever flips your trigger. I'll say a prayer for you!
