I need tips for Summary Essay...?

We Answered:

There are many ways to start out an essay that will interest someone. A surprising statement is my favorite.
Ex: Odysseus is the first literary mortal hero.
That statement will make people think, 'well, is he?' You make a sentence that will surprise the reader, and make it your topic sentence.
There are many other ways to start an essay, such as the 'anecdote start,' where you use another story to describe your main point.
Ex: When a teen makes their way through high school, it is a trial of tests and sadness, as well as happiness, much like Odysseus' journey through the Odyssey.
Or you could use a historical intro, where you can either describe the history/background of the book/author itself,
Ex: The Odyssey is considered one of the oldest books written, and it is still unclear as to whether Homer was actually a person, or many people who wrote the story together.
But It could also be a history of the story itself, because if your story is one in a series, you could explain what happened in the previous book.
Ex: In the Iliad, Odysseus used his cunning to defeat Troy, now his adventures are continued in the Odyssey.

Sorry this took so long. You're writing a summery essay, so the easiest way to write an introduction would be to write the body paragraphs first, and then take a few key sentences from that, rephrase them, and make that into an introduction. Usually that method is also used for the conclusion, so be careful not to be repetitive. I would make a careful thesis statement;
Ex: Throughout this book, Odysseus shows both his best, and his worst side.
That way, with this thesis, you can make your essay in chronological order of the story, but still explain your point, making it fun to read. I know this was probably confusing to read, but I hope I helped!

What distinguishes a research essay from, for example, a historical report?

We Answered:

In a historical report, you are relating the facts as they occurred. You already know the details and the outcome.
In a research essay, you have an opinion, which is your thesis statement, and then perform tests to see if your theory can be proven. You don't know what the outcome will be until after you run the experiments.

When writing a summary essay, where do I search for citations?

We Answered:

Let's think this out. Who are political scientists? Where do we find them? What purpose do they serve? Where would we locate their publications? Let's assume, that they are individuals with PhD's in their chosen field, better known if in journalism as pundits, but not always. Let's assume they are either published in academic level or professional level journals which are found in university libraries or data basis. Or that such individuals make speeches or honorariums, depending on how far they have gone in their field of interest. In that case, locate a published speech. If such a person speaks on a television show as a participant in a panel discussion, locate a transcript of the dialogue. On some occasions, one can find an internet publication by such an educated person, and can cite that. Now, we have: journal article, speech, panel discussion transcript, online source. In each of these, the political scientist will state a position based on his/her knowledge of the entire political spectrum, but in your case this person to be perfectly objective need only reach a conclusion based on pure knowledge of facts and have no bias. I have yet to meet anyone with no bias, but this is your task. So, what follows are some assumptions on how this person you have selected shows via the work you are using a lack of bias and a clear assumption, free of pressures and totally objective. So, what could that be? Neutrality? Freedom from the prevailing view? Freedom to look as if above the fray. Arguments pro and con, with no position taken in the end. You can't do this task without the product, that is an example from which to work. To me, you are attacking this task backwards, unless I am misunderstanding what you have said. First find the reference from which you can analyze the product of said PS's mindset. That, I cannot do, for I didn't major in that subject.

Example (1-3) of Thought Questions in Used in Essay Test (in English Subject)?

We Answered:

I am not sure if there is a "right" answer to your question, but are you thinking of something such as synthesize: Create - a new ending to the story. Or Describe - list details of a character or describe the point of view of the narrator and give examples from the story. You have already used several higher level thinking skills. Maybe compare and contrast also.
