Rubric For Essay Writing

Jon Said:

Iam writing a persuasive essay and its says on the rubric i have to follow Include a "hook" for your introduct

We Answered:

A hook is something that pulls the reader into the essay by interesting him./

Timothy Said:

Anyone who knows about writing?

We Answered:

One should not restrict yourself to a 5 paragraph system on an essay.
It may take multiple paragraphs just to rove one of your points.
5 paragraphs is good for an essay on a science test, where content is more important, but i suggest that in the case of English, one should not restrict themselves to a essay formula.

Katie Said:

Rate my 30min essay in an ACT rubric (1-6), please! And tips to how to improve it?

We Answered:

2 maybe 3. This is a very basic essay. First and most important, you have no introduction. or thesis statement. Your introductory paragraph sounds like it was a body paragraph cut and pasted first. Your three points are good and valid, but try and use less boring transitions. These are very bad transitions: "First", "next", "thirdly", "for example". For the transition "for example", there is nothing wrong with it, but you use it too much. Try different transitions such as "furthermore", "becasue of this", etc. Tie your conclusion back to your introduction and in your intro MAKE SURE to mention all three points. Of course, this is the worst possible format for writing an essay, but this is a test after all. Good Luck!

PS- if you had captured my attention and put in a thesis statement, this would have been a solid 4.

Mae Said:

can anyone please help me with a macbeth essay? please!!!?

We Answered:

Macbeth let his ambition drive his decisions which led him down a bloody path.

Lester Said:

help. please critique my essay. this is graded on the rubric scale?

We Answered:

I'm really picky so I'd give you a two.
-Whenever you have quotations, they have to be on their own line...yes every single one of them.
-Don't use words that don't sound like you...combative, from what i've read, doesn't sound like a word that you would use on a regular basis; this is called having voice in a piece of writing.
-Spelling...reading an essay backwards can give excellent spelling corrections because you are focusing on the words, not on the story.
-If this is an essay, have an introduction paragraph, two or three body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.
-Use better words than "mean" and other simple words that were learned in like the first grade.
-Never use contractions in a formal piece of writing.
-USE SPELL CHECK!!!!
-Subjects and their verbs must agree..."the girl burst into tears" would be a more appropriate way of saying that.

Like I said, I'm really picky, but I hope I helped a little. I don't criticize to be mean...I do it to help. lol srry
