The essay readers aren't really looking at how many novels you can quote or how any maxims you can jot down on your paper in the half an hour or so that you have during the test. They're seeing if you have relevant and solid points relating to the prompt, as well as your grammar and writing conventions. A high score indicates that you use varied diction and can write in a way that makes sense.
