How To Write Essay Introduction

Rick Said:

How to write the introduction to my essay?

We Answered:

Writing an introduction (and writing the closing) is sometimes the most daunting part of the paper writing task. With the body of the paper you know what you're doing...you have a specific argument that you are presenting in defense of your thesis. So aren't the introduction and conclusion just unnecessary?

Well, as you probably guessed, the answer is no. As much as most of us would like to completely exclude these paragraphs they work as the frame that our pretty picture of an argument hangs in.

So, how to write it. My formula is pretty basic. Start with the basic information: who wrote the pieces? what are the pieces called? when were they written? what era was this?
Then move in narrower: what theme(s) are you focusing on in your essay? are you accentuating their similarities or differences?
Finally, move on toward your thesis: why do these two pieces merit being compared and contrasted? what basic evidence are you going to present to argue your thesis? and what is your argument (thesis)?

I hope this helps! Good luck with your paper.

How do you write a introduction for an essay ?

We Answered:

Well, you have to start off with a hook, to grab the reader's attention, and then a topic sentence that makes them want to keep reading. The hook should be either dialogue, or a question, or a statement. Add one or two more sentences about the topic and then you need a thesis. A thesis is one sentence about what you are going to talk about. The thesis should be restated in the conclusion, but in different words.

If you have trouble, you could always write the paper and go back and do the intro when you're done. That's what I used to do.

How do I write an essay introduction if I only partly agree with the topic?

We Answered:

When you are having a hard time writing the introduction for the paper, sometimes it is easier to write the body of the paper first. I usually went this route when I had a hard time with the intro.

In regards to Cromwell, he shows that his personal beliefs are not as important to him as say the other characters view their relationships. In a drawn out way, he thinks that the beliefs of the king are important, so in a way personal beliefs are important (because you can somewhat say that he changes his colors like a chameleon)

I hope that helps.

Well, when you are writing the introductionary paragraph, you should start out with a "hook", which is a sentence that will grab a reader's attention. Don't do something dull and boring because your first immpression does count. If your firsts sentence is boring, then the reader will turn away immediately. After that {I presume you are writing a 5 paragraph essay} think of three main topics. Discuss briefly the main points. Don't explain much about the three main points because you will have a lot of space to explain later. If you are writing a 3 paragraph essay, then you still have to mention 3 key points. you will just have to explain the 3 points a little less to fit the paragrph. Here is the formats I suggest:

***5 paragraph Essay***

I) Introductionary Paragraph
-Hooking sentence
-Main Idea 1
- Main Idea 2
-Main Idea 3

II) Main Idea 1

III) Main Idea 2

IV) Main Idea 3

V) Conclusion
-Restate 3 pints in different wording
- Speculate into the future
-Concluding sentence

***3 paragraph Essay***

I) Introductionary Paragraph
-Hooking sentence
-Main Idea 1
- Main Idea 2
-Main Idea 3

II) Body Paragraph
-Explain Main Idea 1
-Explain Main Idea 2
-Explain Main Idea 3

III) Concluding Paragrah
-Restate 3 pints in different wording
- Speculate into the future
-Concluding sentence

How should I write the introduction to my personal essay?

We Answered:

Literature has always been in my life. As I read each novel, short story, or poem, I would always find a way to apply what I learned from them into my life. Of all the ways literature has influenced my life, by far the part most affected has been my view of love. In novels such as ___ and ___, I have been affected by the romances within their covers.

XD I suck at introductions, but maybe something like that?

For 'Romeo & Juliet', something that contrasts would be good. Like...
"Tormented by love and drawn together by the blade, two lovers unite only in the darkness of death. Opposing forces desperately seek to keep them apart. Any attempt surely must be in vain. Cosmos nor family ties may keep them from what they know is true in their young souls."
