How To Write An Example Essay

Jessie Said:

I want to write an essay on Blood Brothers that will be given the mark A*?

We Answered:

We did not have to do that. I have done my six course works, attaining A* on all but one, of which I got an A grade. I don't have a course work readily available for me to give you, so I'll give you some tips.
1. The thing that most people do to let themselves down when it comes to course works is, 'Run out of gas' part of the way through. Make sure your essay maintains interest, and is consistent right through until the end.
2. Organise your essay. Set it out into paragraphs. Without doing this, I doubt you'll get any higher than a C grade, but it is important I state that also. :) It also makes your writing look more interesting, as clumped up essays look boring, and uninviting.
3. Start with something clever or witty that will drag the reader in. Use the technique of rhetoric-ask questions that dont need an answer to get the reader thinking. A good introduction can get you many marks, as most teachers say that after reading the introduction to an essay, they can 'pretty much' guess the grade the candidate will attain!

Tim Said:

How do you write an essay in this format?

We Answered:

Okay, here goes.

A lead is what draws your reader (your teacher, in this case) into your essay. There are several different formats: anecdote, history, general/background information, etc. If you chose the latter, please please do not start with something that sounds like "since the dawn of time, man has been interested in My Topic" (jazz hands optional).

A link brings your lead and thesis together. Your thesis is the core of your essay and consists of two things: your subject and your controlling idea. For example, if your subject is cats, your controlling idea could be "are excellent pets" or it could be something completely different like "have brains the size of walnuts".

I can't emphasize enough the necessity of a strong thesis statement. DO THAT FIRST! Once you've hit on a statement that really covers how you feel/what you think about the topic (depending on the type of essay) you'll find it a lot easier to work on your points.

I'm a bit confused about your P.O.D business. Normally your main points would come after your thesis, so I am not quite sure what it is doing before. You'd have to ask your teacher about that, because in the 10 years I've taught (and the 10-odd years I've been a literature student) I've never seen a structure where the main points come first.

To come back to the topic, however, your points would simply state your argument broken down into smaller sections. To return to the thesis "Cats are excellent pets" your points could be that they are easy to take care of, affectionate, and inexpensive.

Anyway, best of luck!

How to write an eye catching essay?

We Answered:

A great way to start an essay is a personal narrative. Relate the subject to an expereience you have had this could also be your introduction.

Help me find an example essay for english 101? College level.?

We Answered:

There is no 'example essay' on writing. You have to write from your own experience.

Do you like to write? Why? What do you write? Poetry? Business letters? Term papers? Has your writing improved over the past 2 or 3 years? Have you learned how to be your own sharpest editor and critic? (That's the toughest part of learning how to write.)

Discuss It!
