I know you already probably heard this, but use imagery. For instance, say you were talking about why you like the beach. You could say something like:
The pearly white sand is like freshly fallen snow, each grain sprinkled perfectly across the shoreline.
The luminous Sapphire water is populated with exotic wildlife that wows you every time.

you want to be precise, making the Reader see what you see and feel what you feel. you want to put your own voice into each paragraph. that means to write something only you could write. like use your experiences when giving an example.

*edit one- Okay, lets see what you have...so you could have so far two paragraphs regarding the events/parallels- one on amputation and another on death. Have you thought about possible parallels on rebirth as well? This could be your standard five paragraph essay. I would also suggest you look at a certain singer's songs in the novel.
