How To Write An Essay For College Application

Manuel Said:

In what way should I write my college application essay?

We Answered:

Ultimately, the essay is somehow supposed to be about you. Writing an essay about your generation as a generalization may showcase your writing abilities, but it doesn't showcase YOU.

You should make it more personal. The first answer gave some good examples. Keeping with the theme you originally were thinking of, you could write about what love means to you, with some poignant examples from your life.

Lauren Said:

Can I have some tips on how to write a college application essay?

We Answered:

You want to seem like an individual; colleges can only admit so many people, and they want to avoid as many "plain" people as possible, because plain people tend to not help the college community or help themselves flower into great people. Plain people also tend to not supply much in the way of constructive criticism or help others form new ideas. While there is nothing inherently wrong with being plain, you're likely to get overlooked by another potential student that spends their time rescuing dolphins off the coast of cuba, or whatever.

Write about where you want to go in life, and how college is an important stepping stone. If you've had a lot of interesting experiences that have changed you as a person, write about those experiences and how they've changed you, and how you foresee yourself growing in the future. If some traumatic experience you had as a younger person influenced your decision to be a neuroscientist, and that's why you're applying to get into a neuroscience program... you should let them know that.

If you don't have any unique experiences, and your life has been pretty ho-hum and nothing comes to mind when you've read these suggestions, I'd say you should take a break from school and go TRAVEL AND EXPERIENCE THINGS so that when you're ready and raring to get back into school, you can "wow" the admissions board with tales of your exploits and other impressive stuff like your GPA and standardized test scores. So that when they read your page-and-a-half to two-page essay about your tales as a salty pirate in the arctic circle, they'll say to each other, "Wow, AND this person gets good grades!"

That's how you do that.

How should I write my college application essay?

We Answered:

You should make a few very strong powerful paragraphs.

1) Introduction -- State your interest in the college or the university.

2) Explain in a few powerful sentences the skills that you have in order to achieve your goal. Some examples may be your aspiration of the program, or your skills that would consider you over anyone else.

3) Conclusion -- not stating anything new, but you need to get a nice powerful closure to confirm that points of the introduction and body.

Aaron Said:

I have to write an essay for a college application and i don't know how to start it.?

We Answered:

First, recall an instance that you had to collaborate with people of difference ethnicities, just like it says. It could have been a very brief or minor situation, just be able to pick at the details of the situation through writing. It's as simple as that. Explain how you overcame any racial judgments or something of that sort.

Make sure your intro. paragraph lays out a good thesis statement, all your paragraphs should relate to that statement, etc. This is very elementary stuff, and you should have little problem if you made it through English class, right?

Gina Said:

Is it a bad idea to write about an illness for a college application essay?

We Answered:

Less depressing topics are better. Some people become upset when the read about illness and you do not know who will read your essay.

Best wishes.

Becky Said:

For my college application, an essay is not required, but should I write one anyways?

We Answered:

Essays are amazing bonuses. Writing one when it isn't required actually shows you're serious and willing to go the extra mile; I did that and got into my college. Best of luck!

How should I write a college application essay?

We Answered:

I would still do an intro but a very short one. Thesis is important to pull the entire essay theme together.

As for answering what you look for in a candidate, it really depends on what you put for your thesis. Personally, I would write about how countries view the US and would like to see strong foreign policy experience from our president.

As for the US media, they definitely hinder our assessment due to their bias for hope and change that the president can perform.

Discuss It!
