How To Write A Ged Essay

Rosa Said:

how do i write an essay ?

We Answered:

OK, I'm a retired teacher, maybe I can offer some ideas, Try not to include anything that would make you look "lazy" or "irresponsible", like you said, you didn't want to go back to school because of the divorce. I would understand that because I got divorced, but young people of all generations are often looking for good excuses and teachers/schools have a high radar sense for lame excuses or what appear to be lame excuses. You don't need to lie. They would like to hear that you feel education is important and you want to get back to it. BE truthful and tell them why you want to get your GED, do you want to go to college, get a better job, they will want to know you honestly want to do it for a good reason. They don't need to know all the details of why you didn't do high school, many home schoolers who are smart and great take the GED. email me if needed.

I need help scoring my GED Essay?

We Answered:

First line tells me you made a 1 or a 2.

I skimmed, and see a lot of problems

Point of view: NEVER write an essay with you, yourself, etc. Always refer to you, or someone in general, as "one, oneself"
You have some grammatical errors and comma splices.

Cody Said:

Please, can someone tell me what score would my essay earn on the ged test? And why?

We Answered:

In my perspective, this essay is somewhere between a 3 and a 4 (on a scale of 4). Overall, this essay has a lot of details and is very informative, but it's missing a thesis, a sentence where the main ideas are expressed. Ideas are expressed as clearly as they could be. I edited your essay below, and added a couple of general comments.

Your introduction is the first thing that the essay grader is going to read. Make it meaningful, but not tedious. Use the introduction to explain to the reader the key ideas you're going to talk about in your essay. In my revision, I only have two sentences in the introduction: a main idea and a thesis. That's all you need. The main idea gives a general background. The thesis helps answer the question you want to answer.

The goal of the body paragraphs is to explain the topics you mentioned in your thesis sentence in detail. Begin with an introduction, add details, and close with a solid concluding sentence. And you conclusion should wrap up your essay, perhaps with a re-statement of your thesis. Don't get distracted and run off on a tangent. And don't use "I think" or "I believe." It makes your essay sound uncertain or doubtful. Make sure that you check your spelling and grammar. A few minor spelling mistakes technically should not hurt your essay score, but, to be on the safe side, check your spelling and make sure to add in the appropriate apostrophe marks, etc. Also, as a side, don't use too many rhetorical questions. They're not necessary in that they don't add any more additional information to your essay.

The best way to prepare is to write often. Good luck on your GED!

[Revised Essay]
Why Teens Skip School Days.

School is designed for students to learn many new topics and to prepare them for their life in the world ahead of them, yet some people choose to skip school and miss out on opportunities on knowledge and preparation. Teenagers are often absent from school because they do not realize the importance of an education, because they have short attention spans and would rather have fun, or because they find class lectures either too challenging or too boring.

Simply put, kids just want to have fun. School doesn’t provide enough stimuli for teenagers because they tend to have a short attention span. Instead of spending six hours of the day inside a classroom, teenagers seek immediate satisfaction, such as watching movies, playing video games, or shopping at the mall. Their desire to seek entertainment over education is one cause for lack of attendance at school.

In addition, because some students think that school isn’t crucial to their lives, they may think it is acceptable to skip school. These teenagers believe that high school and college education are not necessary in obtaining a good career and making decent wages. What they don’t realize is that most roads to good job opportunities depend on a high school or college diploma. Teenagers will quickly realize that their jobs are restricted to low-level positions at supermarkets, fast-food restaurants, or the like. Sadly, when they do realize that education is important in advancing their careers, it will be too late. Because students do not realize the importance of education on their future, they may opt to skip school.

Finally, students who find classes to be boring or hard to understand are also prone to skipping school. They struggle trying to understand the solutions to answers, and don’t believe that they can grasp the concept of a lesson. When they feel that they seem to not learn anything in class, they fail to see the point of school. Students may also avoid school when there is too much pressure, and if they lack the power and determination to succeed. Eventually, they take the easy way out, by skipping class.

Teenagers skip school for a variety of reasons. Some students may opt out of class because they want to have fun outside of school. Others fail to find the importance of a strong education, and still others find school to be boring or difficult. These factors help explain why high school students choose to skip school.

Lester Said:

I'm taking GED classes, and it is extremely hard and frustrating to write any type of essay please help?

We Answered:

Right now you need to work on writing fluency.
Practice at home.
Get a GED writing practice book. Look for one that does the step by step writing development.

Talk with the teacher privately and ask for help.

Journal daily... get in the habit of writing, even if it is just what you did today, your thoughts, your fears etc. If you have, say 45 minutes on the actual test, set a timer for 45 minutes and start writing. Try to get more and more writing on the page each time you do this. If it helps, keep a chart of words writen per minute. If 45 minutes is too long, start with a shorter amount of time and work your way up.

When you get closer to test date, practice timed essay responses.
The two sites below have some extra practice.

How to indent written essay. For GED pretest and test.?

We Answered:

Start 1/2 of an inch if handwriting or 5 spaces. On a keyboard the 'tab' key indents for you when you press it. Is this what you are asking?

If handwriting they just don't want to see you starting paragraphs clear over on the left in line with the rest of the paragraph.

Discuss It!
