How To Write A College Essay

Carmen Said:

What should I write my college essay about?

We Answered:

What I did was I made of list of the schools I would like to attend and then I took a look at each of their applications. What I found was that there were a few that did not have a specific essay topic. The ones that did have a topic tended to have similar topics so I just wrote one essay based on the similar topics and made modifications as necessary for each school.

If you already know what school you are interested in, start from those topics.

If you would prefer to just get a suggestion from here like your question requested, here is a few;

- Write about the most challenging situations you have been in and how you overcame the challenge

- Write about your goals and aspirations, why you have those goals and how your education at that school would help you achieve those goals

Good luck!

A book that teaches how to write COLLEGE ESSAYS?

We Answered:

I've read this book and it's a great, easy read. It is also selling for under 4 dollars used on amazon right now, so that def helps, right :)

Here is a REALLY basic website that I have used: http://www.essaywritinghelp.com/

Also, it would probably be a good idea to contact former instructors and ask for them to give you feedback on areas to work on in the future. I have sucked it up and done this and received great constructive criticism.

Gary Said:

how do i write a good college essay if nothing of significance has happened to me?

We Answered:

Something of significance could be why you want to to go to their school for the degree program you want to enter. Also check the college information, or talk with an advisor at the college about the essay. I applied to two different universities for my master's degree. They each were specific and different in what they wanted in the essay.

Basically I found it a good idea to cover the following items, if they apply to you. If not skip that section and move onto the next.

Personal and Professional Goals
Academic Experience
Work and Other Experience
Personal Qualities

Good luck

Donald Said:

Is this a good topic to write my college essay about?

We Answered:

Ehh... I'm not sure if you would want to put it that way. By that, it gives the impression that you do not have any interest in helping others, and therefore, are selfish.

Herman Said:

I have to write a college essay about my immigrant parents and my different culture. Help with first sentence?

We Answered:

I will try to help you, not to insult you.

You need significant help with English composition before you can write a college admissions essay if your question is an example of your best English writing.

You should omit "to the" before diversity and insert "a" before different. You need a period, not a comma, after community.

Good luck.

Jack Said:

Would you write a college essay about this?

We Answered:

Maybe.

If I could avoid the sort of heroic-effort story and the learning-to-appreciate-what-I-have story that are both so cliched. It's too easy to fall into lazy and lousy writing when you're telling a story that loads of other people have told, because you count on the emotions we all associate with such stories instead of telling an honest story that is unique to you and that elicits emotions that the reader doesn't expect.
