Help On Writing An Essay

Kathy Said:

Writing an essay on Obesity in America. Please help!?

We Answered:

Always have references. Even if it is on opinion, always try to be educated on the subject.
Here are some tips:
- One of the easiest forms of essays to write is the 5 paragraph essay. Have a topic paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.
- The topic paragraph should include your thesis, which is what you are trying to tell the reader, and should categorize it into 3 categories. Those will become your body paragraphs.
- In the body of the essay, try to always have at least 1 fact, and then explain it. You can have more, but always explain them.
- The conclusion should wrap up the essay. It shouldn't be the thesis statement exactly, but restate it.
- When you use someone else's information, you don't have to quote them. Just be sure you reference whoever had the info. For example:
"The CDC did a research on obesity that shows..."
Although I never directly quoted the CDC, I did tell you they did the research.
- If you are writing an opinion essay, than all of the essay will be your opinion somehow.
- When you form the opinion, it doesn't just have to be For/Against, or anything as black and white as that. If they just told you to write about Obesity in America, you can write about if its an epidemic, how can people change, and stuff like that.
- If you writer's block, and you have don't have to worry about running out of paper, just write. Someone I know told me this, and it works. Just write whatever comes to mind, no matter how stupid. Its a simple way to get rid writer's block.
- Most important of all, DON'T STRESS! When you take a test, you will stress about writing. When you finish, you'll find out that it wasn't as bad as you thought it was.

Hope these tips could help you, and I'm sure you'll do fine on the essay.

writing an essay about obesity (Please help?)?

We Answered:

Well, a good writer has a beginning, middle and an ending.

Start off your paper with something along these lines..."Obesity in American households has grown. Primarily due to the fact of the fast food chains and the growing number of people who choose quick microwaveable food instead of concentrating their efforts on nutrition."

That's a good start on it. That way you are addressing that there is a problem. In your middle section you could include some statistics related to your essay (such as 94% of Americans eat fast food 3 times a week).

Your ending would start off with something like this "In conclusion (blah blah blah).

Good luck to you.

Need help writing an essay Urgent!?

Firstly, I would advise that you start with an introductory paragraph: addressing the key points that you will discuss and outlining the argument path that you will follow. The kind of essay you describe would be best presented as a discursive essay. In this type of essay you have to remain objective - that means no using 'I' or any other pro-nouns like that. You need to balance the arguments for and against allowing children access to video games. Also, it may be of benefit to note the impracticalities in removing electronic games from the younger generation.
Conclude your essay with a short, coherent and informative paragraph: in which you state your opinion and round up on any points that you feel need further explanation. It is also important to review any key facts and/or opinions that you have discussed in the essay. Finally, remember and use discourse markers, for example: 'furthermore'/'on the other hand'. These show a sophisticated writing style and are sure to earn you a good grade.

Regards.
