Guidelines For Essay Writing

Victor Said:

AP US History Essay Guidelines Help Please!?

We Answered:

Okay, I took APUSH and got a 4 with an A in the class, my teacher has an 73% passing rate. Anyways, for the essays, I used collegeboard.com for alot of them. Create a teachers account and then you can access old essays that have been released with sample essays from the 9 category.
Now, you will call this cheating, say that as it may. But honestly, it really did help me become a better writer as I tried to interpret and analyze their essay while writing my own.

FYI, if you do APGOV, there's no real essay, its more of a short answer. GET TO THE FACTS.

Remember, AP means Attack the Prompt.

Help please in writing an essay?

We Answered:

My suggestion but you don't need to follow it entirely.

Career goals:
1) What have you always wanted to do in the future
2) What have you done to get closer to that goal, name as many
3) Very very briefly state what you want to do after attaining that goal, to show you have a plan, e.g. help people with their problems, money to support your parents, specialize in xxx etc

Leadership training, I can give you some ideas.
It can:
1) Develop self-confidence, will not falter during a crisis
2) Train public-speaking skills, skills to convey ideas clearly
3) Good opportunity/platform to --- (according to your goal)

How it can prepare you for your goals.
1) How will this training affect you as a person? Personality etc
2) How this training will get you one step closer to your goal
3) Is the training essential for the goal? (Yes) Why?

It's not a lot of pointers but I hope it helps, and you can mix it with other suggestions to get the best essay :D Good luck

For the essay on the common app, are the questions just rough guidelines?

We Answered:

I don't think the colleges will get that picky. The point of your college essay is to show the colleges how AMAZING you are outside of the boring old numbers; if you can accomplish this by writing about both parents instead of one then go for it!

Remember to make the essay about you, though, instead of just focusing on how great your parents are. I wrote an essay about how my mom loved to cook, and the biggest challenge for me was relating the essay back to myself!

Best of luck!

Sidney Said:

what are clinical guidelines?, why is there a move towards electronic guidlines?electronic guideline modeling?

We Answered:

Ostensibly, the move toward electronic guidelines is to facilitate ease of access among practitioners, thereby increasing dissemination, availability and compliance. Theoretically, this infusion of "evidence based" medicine will trickle down and result in improved patient outcomes (e.g., fewer med errors, lives saved).

In reality, the move toward electronic clinical guidelines is to facilitate the advent of socialized medicine (thereby destroying quality health care in the USA in the process). The feds need strict control over both practitioners AND patients. By demanding a one-size-fits-all approach, the feds save a great deal of money and (theoretically) protect themselves from lawsuits by understandably enraged citizens.

Although they sound great on the surface (who could argue with encouraging practitioners to use only EVIDENCE based practices), in reality, they tie the hands of health care providers. Unfortunately, patients' problems are MUCH more complex and multi-faceted than the relatively "pure" versions of conditions/disorders necessary for scientific testing (and the creation of the guidelines). It is more the RULE than the exception that a given client's presenting concerns will mimic those of an experiment participant closely enough that the practitioner will receive identical results when adhering strictly to the manualized treatments suggested by the "evidence".

The bottom line is that medicine suffers when you tie the hands of physicians. "Evidence based guidelines" (whether electronic or traditional) represent a major threat to the autonomy of health care providers, and ultimately a threat to the health of the patient.
