Even though it is not as important as the math and verbal sections, your writing section is still part of your GMAT package. So when the schools see the score report, they see your scores for 3 sections (verbal, math, and writing) and the 2 essays you wrote. I don't exactly know how schools use the essays. My guess is that they use it as a reference to your writing style. Maybe (I am still guessing here) they use the essays to figure out whether your essays for your school application are written by you.

Yes, its enough if u prepare for those in the list.....Make a brainstorm notes for as many topics as u can before test....search for good examples for each topic.

The list is useful because you will be answering two questions from it on the testing day. What you can do is look through the questions, make sure that you understand what they are asking, and brain storm some ideas as to how you would answer them. If you have time, you can also practice answering some of them within the 30 min time frame. As far as improving your writing skills, GMAT prep books from Kaplan, Princeton Review, and other publishers will be fine.
