Essay Writing Tips

Good essay writing tips?

We Answered:

-make sure you have a clear, concise thesis. This is important for the reader bc this is what your entire essay is based off of.
-make sure you use transition words---first, secondly, therefore etc
-make sure you have commas in the right place and that your sentence structure is proper.
-always triple check your grammar, read it back several of
times...if it doesn't make sense--change it
-stay on point with your thesis, if your talking about
something in your paragraph that has to do with your thesis
don't add anything else that isn't related to your topic
-essays should flow, make sure you are clear about the
points you are trying to make throughout the paragraph
-conclusions are a restatement of your intro paragraph and
something that could possibly lead off to another topic.
-check your spelling
-stay away from "I" unless it's an essay about yourself.
Hope that helped!
also make your paper interesting, be different. Boring
papers are awful to read, I am an English teacher, outlines are great for organizing---you can use the harvard method(most common) for this. Refer to harvard outline in google.

Applying to college....essay writing tips please?

We Answered:

1) write about what makes you unique
2) Don't use overly fancy language/a thesaurus. Write plainly. Don't use words you don't already know. It WILL come off as unnatural and makes you look like a bad writer
3) Try to be creative with format and story-telling

Start your essay with a grabber that will hook the reader immediately. make a thesis statement which is like an overview of what your essay is going to be about in one sentence. make sure you prove your thesis statement. very important. be very descriptive. relax just let all the words flow. once you start, you're like a river.

Any tips for writing an essay at the university level?

We Answered:

structure is what they want the most and coherence of argument. start out with a good first attention grabbing sentence then have a good thesis as for body paragraphs a good 1st topic sentence is good then piece of evidence then analysis of the evidence then a connecting sentence to next paragraph...as for the conclusion restate the thesis then end by connecting with the "bigger picture"

Essay writing tips. what to do and what not to do?

What kind of essays? What topics?
It's been a long time since I've had to write an essay... So I'm sure there are plenty more useful tips... But this is what I remember... Hope it helps some!
Basically think: Introduction, Body, Conclusion.
In your introduction you state your topic and basically what your paper will be about (& thesis). In your introduction you should briefly include your 'arguments' (what you will talk about in the body of your paper) - list them in order that you will write about them. I've heard some people say to put your strongest argument/point in the first paragraph (to hook the reader), while others say the last (to leave a strong impression)...
In the body of your paper you write about each of your points/argument, as you mentioned them in your introduction. Be sure to have transition between each paragraph and each point/argument.
In the body, you re-state your points and your position. Like your introduction... but close instead of open...
