Essay Writing Prompt

Clarence Said:

help im writing an essay heres the prompt.."how and why did the cold war start and what weapons were used?

We Answered:

Although allied with the West during the 1939-45 war, Stalin was convinced that the capitalist west was only biding its time before it attacked the Soviet Union. The scene for the Cold War was set at the Yalta and Teheran conferences when Stalin was given free rein in the east of Europe and the Balkans for his cooperation. Roosevelt wanted only to curtail any British expansionism and Churchill wanted to increase British influence over Greece and the Near East.
At the end of the war Europe was divided by the partition of Germany. On one side was the new force of Nato and on the other were the tank divisions of the Soveit Union. Relations were soured by the different treatment that the former Allies gave to the parts of Germany that they controlled. The Soviets looted as much as they coujld; the West tried to get Germany back on her feet, remembering the catastrophe that resulted from German poverty after the 1914 war.
The suituation was made worse by the nuclear bombs that each side now possessed. The Soviets had acquired the knowledge through traitors and sympathisers. Each side built bigger and better weapons. The war planners did not realise that this implied that only America could win unless the Soviets launched a surprise attack. The reason for this was that the Soveit economy could not stretch to the enormous financial commitment that these weapons imposed. Fighter aircraft such as the Mig had become enrmously expensive to manufacture. Tanks that had served well in the 1939 war were now at the end of their useful life and it would cost huge amounts of state investment to replace them.
People forget that wars are an investment of the national income and that they take up a great deal of industrial provision that could be used to better purpose in serving the needs of the population.
The main weapon used was "fear". Neither side dared to launch an attack in case there was a world holocaust and the resulting nuclear winter where all or nearly all cities had been reduced to rubble and what was left of the population was starving. So generals and politicians were afraid to launch an attack but they had to be prepared to do so or they would have been seen as "going soft". Hence, the growth of two kinds of opinion on each side: the hard liners and the soft liners.
In the end the Soviets had wonderful aircraft but could not afford the fuel for them except on a minimal basis. Britain struggled to maintain an effective strike force in spite of some military posturing. Thankfully it all came to an end with glasnost and perestroika and , in Berlin, a Soviet soldier sold me his hat and sidearm because he had not been paid for eleven months ansd his family were getting desperate.

Im writing an essay on Medea, can someone give me some good suggestions for a prompt?

We Answered:

Medea is great subject of controversy. The obvious picture is the one of a depraved woman, who kills her father, her brother, and later on her own children. But scholars disagree and see a victim in Medea. I just read a powerful article about Medea, but it is in French. I am sure Google is full of such articles. I am sorry to suggest Google, instead of giving you more insight. When I was teaching Greek Mythology, I would point out to my students that Medea was in love with Jason, and that it is for Jason that she committed all those crimes, that Jason promised her a happy life back to his hometown, but that he did not deliver his promise. He let her down in an island, abandoned, and he went for a princess of his own race, and tribe.
After an introduction stating briefly the story, and how she helped finding the golden fleece, I would have a whole part on Medea as a criminal, then a second part on Medea as a victim.
Then a part that would be a synthesis.
And then a short conclusion opening up onto other female characters who were victims of love in literature in general. Like Dido, like Helen of Troy (for Mythology) but then maybe Anna Karenina (although I do not remember the plot any longer) and others that I am sure you know more than me. Good luck!
PS" Her name is Medea, you had it right.
And when speaking of other female victims of love, I suggest that you do some differenciations of course, since they are not the same. Maybe I am not clear although I try to be on target. You have a very good subject in your hand, I truly wish you good luck with it.

writing prompt for a narrative essay?

We Answered:

Your subject matter should be familiar to you, then jazz it up with, for instance, tales of bawdry sexual escapades (I only chose that as the antithesis of your blase life, as you referred to it). If it seems a dismal failure at that point then I say punt and write about your beloved uncle in Maine. LOL

Jamie Said:

If you're writing an essay, and the prompt says a statement and then asks you to assess the validity of the...?

We Answered:
