1. There are several debates going on. The main one is between progressives and insurance corporatists. However I would not call it a "debate." It's mostly mudslinging and misinformation, especially from the insurance companies.

2. The Teabaggers are a group that was created by organizations such as "freedomworks" which is funded by Wellpoint and other insurance companies. It was also hyped up and popularized by fox news.

3. There is no public heath insurance other than medicare which already existed. This bill is mainly focused on increased consumer rights and mandates that everyone buys private insurance.

4. I don't think most Americans know what socialism and communism are, but they tend to be against anything that is demonized with those words. This isn't true for cities like NYC, Seattle, Chicago, etc. where you are more likely to find someone who understand that Hitler is the complete opposite of a communist.

They're pretty different.

In the US the electoral system works state by state, with the number of electoral votes awarded to a state based on its population. And then it's winner take all of those votes. So Obama won Florida... he gets all Florida's electoral votes, because more people voted for him there. Florida has more electoral votes than Iowa because more people live there. Whoever wins the most electoral votes becomes president. A candidate needs 270 to win.

In a parliamentary system the country is divided into ridings. Whatever candidate wins in a riding is elected to parliament. The party that has more candidates who won their ridings forms the government. The prime minister is the leader of the party who won the most ridings.
