Essay Writing Contests

Any teenage essay/writing contests in North Carolina?

We Answered:

Call your local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post... They sponsor the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest (for students in grades 6 - 8) and the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest (for students in grades 9 - 12). Submission deadline for local-level entries is November 1. You can find the general information at: http://www.vfw.org/index.cfm?fa=cmty.lev… From this page, you should find links to the PDF files for the brochures for each of the contests. But call your local VFW post anyway, so that they can tell you more and get your information.

The scholarship money for these contests is pretty good. The national winner of the VOD contest receives a $30,000 scholarship, and the top placers also take home some good scholarship money. For the Patriot's Pen, it's about $10,000 for the national winner....still nothing to sneeze at.

Check it out! It's a good contest, the essay is not that long (3 - 5 minute speech for VOD, 300 - 400 word essay for Patriot's Pen).

Good luck!
