There's always the five-paragraph essay. Opening, three points (sometimes it works better if you order them medium point first, weakest point second, and strongest third), and closing. It wouldn't necessarily have to be five paragraphs; that's just the basic outline.

Really depends on your exam board I should think.
I took GCSE history last year and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The course I did was made up of a development study of medicine through time, and an in depth study of Nazi Germany plus coursework on castles and Northern Ireland.

I wouldn't say it was an easy subject, but certainly enjoyable. You get to learn a lot of reasons for things you might not have otherwise known.
There is a lot of factual learning and like all subjects these days, learning to answer exams rather than learning the course.
The exams themselves can involve quite a bit of writing, but you learn how to structure this and what it is you'll need to write in order to do well.

I'd say it was a very interesting course and well worth taking! Plus I have friends who took geography and hated it. No one really hated history. From what I can gather, geography is mostly climate change and global warming. You get that in almost every other subject anyway.
And I've just seen someone else mention the geography case studies. I got very used to seeing stressed out friends reciting out numbers and facts they'll never need again for geography about very specific things. At least history might come in useful for a pub quiz in future if nothing else!

A good opening paragraph does a few things:

1. The first sentence should present the basic point of the story with no complications. ex: Canada is a culturally rich country filled with interesting customs and people.

2. The second sentence should provide a few details that will be introduces in the story. ex: During my trip to Canada, I met a hockey player who showed me many of its wonderful and interesting places such as edmonton, ottawa, and newfoundland.

3. Thesis statement. Take a stand and put out an opinion that you will go on to support in your story. ex: Canada is the greatest country in the world because of its silly accents, love of hockey, and skill in cooking moose meat.
