Since it's for the humanities, you have to focus on morality. I would talk about how sometimes businesses take money into account before they take people into account. Or, they exploit people and capitalize on resources, like only allowing employees to work a certain number of hours a week to keep them from receiving benefits, unethical treatment of the environment, etc...be sure to use specific examples (Walmart, McDonalds, etc).

In business writing, the main goals are clarity and brevity. Your reader wants the facts and usually doesn't have time to try to sift through clutter or to try to sort out what's important. Often in business writings, only the intro and conclusion (or executive summary) and tables/charts get read. That's another difference--reliance upon tables and charts as needed. A picture communicates quickly and clearly.

Essay writing, on the other hand, assumes the reader has time and interest for the topic. Essay readers are able to stop and think as they read, and the writing takes advantage of that by using more anecdotes, examples and arguments.

The purpose of business writing is to sell, be it a product, service or create a brand name recognition (think of all the t-shirts with HURLEY on them, this is 'branding'). Many different devices are used in business writing, such as, advertisments, Press Releases, brochures, company profiles and corporate histories. Each device is targeted toward a specific market. Business writing is highly commercialized.

Essay writing is not meant to be business writing or commercial in any aspect. True essay writing is meant to convey an opinion or project a point of view with a diagnoses and suggestion for a correction/success. Essay writing is often analytical or editorial and thought-provoking... it is meant to get the reader involved in the topic and form his/her own ideas.

Excellent 'word-dancing' is needed for both types of writing as well as a knowledge of the psychology of words.
