Basics Of Essay Writing

Essay - Family is an important part of today's society - can anyone help?

We Answered:

OK - my thoughts:

Primary Socialisation of child - Murdock's 4 functions and Parsons' "Warm Bath Theory" of soaking away daily stresses and strains. AO2 (evaluation) would be that the New Right and Functionalists say that only the nuclear family does this successfully, yet many don't socialise their children well, and many same-sex or reconstitued families do! (there are researchers names in any textbook to go with this AO2 comment)

Link this idea of socialisation to crime - years ago there were more nuclear families and less crime, so this (according to the New Right) shows that if children are socialised properly in the family then the family has done a very important job in keeping crime rates down as their children do not become criminals.

The teaching of gender roles which enables children to grow up into healthy adults.

Functionalist view that the family works with the state, e.g. hospital helps people get better but then the family can take the strain away from the hospital by letting their family member recover at home. (As you know, functionalism is all about different parts of society working together to help it run smoothly)

Alternative view: Marxists see the family as helping capitalism to flourish because women give birth to the new generation of workers. Also, men can take out their stress on the woman at home and then carry on being exploited at work without kicking off about it!

Radical Psychiatrists say that the nuclear family can be bad because it can cause mental health problems due to spending too much time together - this can only be bad for society as it means more doctors visits etc and a strain on the NHS.

Help with Their Eyes Were Watching God Essay Question?

We Answered:

Janie only married Logan because her Nanny wanted her to. It was all about money and financial security. She was never attracted to him but her Nanny said she would be.

Janie met Jody but he turned out to be nothing like he seemed. Jody did start out by giving her love but only because he was a smooth talker. Jody was obsessed with a high social status and the love that he gave Janie was all material. Janie stopped loving Jody because he just wanted control.

Tea Cake was the most different because he allowed Janie to find her voice and be herself. He let her do things that women of the time weren't allowed to do and he loved Janie for who she was. Their relationship was beyond material things and it was all about emotions and nature.

All three husbands hit her but Tea Cake was the only justified one that Janie didn't mind because he sacrificed things for her and she'd do the same for him. Letting him hit her was Janie using silence to allow Tea Cake to feel like he was in control because all the men in the story liked control.

Identify the four basics of a good persuasive essay.?

We Answered:

Overly biased writing would negatively affect a persuasive essay , as it provokes less sympathy from the reader. This is due to the fact the arguments presented would be entirely one sided and the essay would make it appear as though a majority of people already felt this way. Also by not including the other side of the argument the reader feels they are being forced into an opinion, rather than being allowed to make their own whilst judging both opinions presented.
