It's definitely well-written. The imagery is lovely and the mechanics are great. Fluency is also pretty consistent. I also appreciate that the idea is different from the many fantastical creature/modern mythology bandwagon everyone has jumped on. I would definitely consider continuing with it--there's seems to be an interesting plot to explore.

University of Iowa's writing faculty has been renowned for decades, but honestly, both schools probably have excellent professors in the field. Most large universities with an even halfway decent Humanities Department will be able to help you with your writing aspirations. A lot of it will come down to the personals: do you and your instructor come from similar literary schools, can you make a connection, do you share common influences or frames of reference?
