I've seen LOTS of 'want-ads' lately for technical writers. Ideally, everyone wants someone with experience, but if you don't have it, your certificate may be that foot in the door you want and need to grow with a GREAT company.

I say yes, if you can afford it, GO FOR IT! Anytime you get a certificate or can show additional education, it helps give you an edge over the competition!

We Answered:

If you are good in language and you are familiar with the technical field you will be writing about, that’s all you need.

On the other hand, if you have no technical experience or formal technical training on the subject matter, you might either get it or forget it.

I do technical writing on the side but I have an engineering degree and thirty years of professional experience to back me up.

To take a course?
Generally, unless your applying to an advanced program, little more than the cost of admission.
I would assume the teaching facility of your choosing teach the course to give you the basic requirements.
If,on the other hand, if your question is," what are the requirements to do technical writing", that's a horse of a different color.
That would be, ability, talent and knowledge of product.
