Audrey Said:

How do you change majors online at San Francisco state university?

We Answered:

I was in a similar situation three years ago. I have a few friends at SFSU. At any CSU, you cannot change your major online. If you were undeclared, you could sign up for a major online. But in your situation, you must meet with the department whose major you wish to change to. Be sure to fill out and bring a change and major form which you can probably find online. If approved, take the signed form to the Registrar and your major will be changed.

Be warned, though: if you have taken over 90 units, you may no longer be able to change your major. Check with your academic adviser if this is the case.

If I get a BA in Creative Writing will it be a waste of time?

We Answered:

I completed my BA in Creative Writing and I think it was great decision. The degree itself won't get you published (no degree will guarantee success for any career). What it will do is show you how to look critically at your work and develop your skills as a writer. My classmates are still friends I can go to for feedback about my writing. My professors helped me navigate the publishing world when I was first trying to get published. It was all very useful. i would recommend it, but be ready to work hard and possibly not see a real result for many years.

What I would be careful with is a BFA program. It is hard to earn money as a writer right out of school and the BA will allow you to teach or work in publishing, pr, etc while you write. Friends of mine with BFAs had harder time finding work because employers didn't think their degrees qualified for them for jobs outside of the arts.
