Schools For Creative Writing

Laura Said:

What do good film schools look for in portfolios?

We Answered:

Anything and everything that shows that you are a creative person. That you think differently than the other thousand applicants. Show them that you have the passion and yearning to learn at their school. You need to show that you are an outside of the box thinker. You are going to their school to learn the tools of the trade, you need to already have the innovation of the mind. I hope that helps.

Jacqueline Said:

Good state schools for creative writing?

We Answered:

Usually liberal arts schools do have the best creative writing programs--and many offer really great scholarships and financial aid.
Anyway. State schools (which are often kind of expensive anyway--at least the good ones) that are great for writing:
UVA
UC Berkeley
U Michigan Ann Arbor
U Wisconsin Madison
UNC Chapel Hill

Creative Writing Project Ideas?

We Answered:

if you stick to it and have the passion for it you could make a movie. Crank 2 was shot in three weeks and El Mariachi was made in a week. Crank 2 is your obvious hollywood movie but El Mariachi was made by one guy and won some independent film awards (I want to say sundance but i'm not 100% sure on that).

If money is a concern Robert Rodriguez, the guy who made Sin City and the Desperado Movies, would make movies using just what he had available. He looked at it as a challenge. It forced you to be creative. And believe me it does.

I'm not going to lie finances and available materials are going to shape your movie but if you like writing it's totally fun to see what you come out with.

Creative Writing Classes Long Island?

We Answered:

I would contact Nassau Community (or Suffolk if you're out east) and see about extension classes.

I'm including a link to their creative writing department.
