Prompts For Creative Writing

Jamie Said:

Creative Writing Prompts?

We Answered:

Characters: Stan, a lonely 50-something truck driver whose only communications with the world is through the internet.
Felicia, a 30 year old truck stop waitress known for her wise cracking sense of humor and ability to size up a situation/person instantly.

The scene: Stan is in the truck stop and in a bad mood because the normally free WiFi connection there isn't working well. He is sitting in a booth and drinking coffee, tapping the table nervously and frowning.
Felicia watches him for a few moments, comes up to his table and says, "hey fella. How about a smile?"

You take it from there!

Creative writing websites - forums, prompts, anything really?

We Answered:

NaNoWriMo is an excellent site that is most active in November but there are plenty of die-hards that participate year 'round.

In November we all get a little crazy and write 50,000 words in 30 days. There are also a few offshoots of NaNo, like Script Frenzy for April (100 pages of a script in 30 days).

I believe it's a .org, but if I'm wrong, just google "nanowrimo" and it'll pop up.

Good luck and good writing!

Creative writing prompts?

We Answered:

Life in the eyes of a door?
Try to find a common invetnion and ask who invented it?
Going back in time or future.
Personify animals and objects

This was one of the past college application essays:

"Have you ever walked through the aisles of a warehouse store like Costco or Sam’s Club and wondered who would buy a jar of mustard a foot and a half tall? We’ve bought it, but it didn’t stop us from wondering about other things, like absurd eating contests, impulse buys, excess, unimagined uses for mustard, storage, preservatives, notions of bigness…and dozens of other ideas both silly and serious. Write an essay somehow inspired by super-huge mustard."
