Online Writing Workshops

Jeremy Said:

Can someone turn me on to an online writing workshop?

We Answered:

http://storymash.com is my favorite writing site. It's great for testing out new creative ideas.

It's also collaborative fiction which means you can publish any chapter to continue any story.

If money matters to you, StoryMash also pays 50% royalties, but it's not a lot unless you develop a large following. The best part is the feedback from other talented writers. It really helps when you're trying to hone your storytelling skills.

What are all of the critique groups/writing workshops online?

We Answered:

I'm not sure making an all-inclusive list is doing anybody any favors. There are a lot of fairly awful critique groups online, dominated by petty martinets, praising utter garbage, or reinforcing bad writing habits. People who are active members in groups like that may move no closer to paid publication.

I saved something I copied from the home page of such a Yahoo! group, which I won't name:

"Each week their will be a writting excercise given with three topics that members can choose from. Then members will have one week to post their material for veiwing. Then a pole will be used to determined the results."

Yeah, there's a group that deserves inclusion, no?

Still, if you want to put together a list without commenting on quality, that's your right. Enjoy!

Are there any good online, free writing workshops?

We Answered:

This is not a site for that, but if you join, you could probably find lots of information on online workshops through the Shelfari online community. There are lots of members and groups and I'm sure someone would be able to help you.

http://www.shelfari.com/books/subjects/Y…
gives good descriptions of all the top young adult/teen books and you can create yourself a profile and keep record of all the books you've read, want to read and own...

I am looking for online writing workshops - any suggestions?

We Answered:

Have you checked with local colleges or schools for adults? Some offer creative writing classes and workshops and it's usually better to have face to face meetings.

If you write sci-fi, fantasy or horror though, there is critters.org which is free and counts professionals among its members.
