I really don't think you are going to find anything for free. journalism is a degree plan in most universities, so the best you could hope for there would be distance learning, but at a fee.
If you want to learn how to write effectively, for free, then a trip to your local library will net tons of information.
You know how it goes, the more money you want to save, the harder you have to work.
If you want a college level education in journalism, you are going to have to pay.
If you simply want to improve your writing skills without spending any money, head to the library and exercise those research skills.
As a first year med student, you are going to be spending a lot of time researching and studying anyway.
