Middle School Creative Writing

What colleges have good creative writing programs? We Answered:
I found a full, ranked list of the top creative writing programs here at this website. The first two that came to mind before I looked this up, though, were "(The unnamable)" and Columbia. Apparently, though, the University of Houston got in there between those two, though. Cornell is highly ranked, as well, but hey--talk about the middle of nowhwere. Practically in the Iowa of New York State. Check out this website.http://www-as.phy.ohiou.edu/~rouzie/569A/compcreative/University.htm

Can you guys give me a opinion on a creative writing assingment i have to do for school? We Answered:
For someone who claims to be a poor writer, this is rather good. I've got a few grammar corrections/suggestions for sentences I think sound funny.First, start your first sentence with "Cesar slammed", not "he". "That resulted" should be "which resulted". "Overridden" is all one word.
"He cursed his useless 67 Chevrolet that wouldn’t even qualify as worthy for a cash for clunker sale." I'd recommend either cutting out everything after "Chevrolet" or splitting it into two sentences: "The stupid thing wasn't even worthy of a Cash for Clunkers sale."
"He knew eventually it would happen but why when he was on the run?" This was sort of confusing and at first I didn't realize his car had actually broken down. Could try "He'd known it was going to break down eventually, but why did it have to happen when he was on the run?"
"He looked up and to his guess there wasn’t a cloud in sight." Not sure what you were trying to say here. "To his guess" doesn't make sense. Did you mean "As he'd guessed," maybe?
"he fumbled his hands across the wall looking..." Capitalize "He". "Fumbled his hands across the wall" sounds funny. Try "He groped for a switch", or maybe just "his hands fumbled for a switch".
Describing the bone as a "whitish stick" sounds off, too. Admittedly, there aren't many things you can compare a bone to, so that's kind of tricky. You might say something like "what he at first thought was a white piece of pipe..." (since pipe is more circular than "a stick"?)
Anyways, nice job. Just needs a bit of proofreading and you're good. =]

Starting middle school and need HELP!!!!! PLEASE!We Answered:
First off, I am in the exact same situation as you except I'm going into 7th grade instead of 6th. I am also going to a school that is 45 minutes away because we are moving there in the fall. So, on to the questions...{Organizing} - I would buy a big binder like the one in the source. There is a slot for 5 or 6 classes and there are big rings so you can store all sorts of folders, notebooks and paper. Also, keep your locker organized. Nothing is worse than opening up your locker and everything falls out. Don't buy any locker organizers. They take up space and usually wear out after the first week of school. At my old school, there were no backpacks aloud, so we had to stuff our backpacks in our already crowded locker. So, keep your back pack organized as well. Or else there will be some lost assignments and lost grades.
{Socializing} - Last year in 6th grade, there were the populars, the cheerleaders, the jocks, the goths, ext. As far as I was concerned, being an outcast was great! You don't need to be part of the the cliques to have a great year. I wasn't and ended up having a great year. I hung out with my 3 best friends and then had my classroom buddies who I hung out with in the class since I didn't have any of my 3 best friends in my classes. I think not being in the cliques means you have more personality! You don't have to dress in the Holister clothes or all black since you are just you! You have your own style! And of course, to make friends, just be your self. Smile and ask questions. Being the new kid means you can be anything you want. If you had an embarrassing moment last year, it means nobody will know!
{Lunch} - Well, I really don't know what to say about lunch. I am still trying to figure out what to do next week on the first day of school when I am the new kid. Hmm... I guess I am still thinking about this one. I guess you should just sit with someone from one of your classes. Start a conversation like, "So, do you like our math teacher, Mrs. ____?" Its real easy, although I am still kinda nervous about it.
{What to wear?} - Stay original. Wearing your own clothes gives you your own personality! If you like your True Religon Jeans, wear them! And if your the only one wearing Abercrombie (which I highly doubt), you will be the one who is starting the trend.
{Dance Class} - I think you will love Dance Class. I know I did! It is no big deal dancing with a *gasp* boy. It is really fun once you get in to it!
{Electives} - I think you should take Fine Arts Exploritory and Language Exploritory. With Fine Arts, you get a little bit of everything in the Arts field. With the Language class, you will have knowledge you can put on your Resume when you are older. Being bilingual will get you better jobs in the future.
For a first day of school outfit, maybe where an Abercrombie polo and jeans. Add a cute pair of flip flops and a head band & you are good to go!
Hope I helped at least a little!

Creative Writing club ideas?We Answered:
Wow..sorry to hear that! That would annoy me so much!I don't know what to tell you about the obedience. Sorry. I guess you should make everyone share his or her writing in every meeting, and the ones who come just to come won't have anything and maybe that would embarrass them? I dunno, sorry.
On the actual meeting, however, you should just having group discussions. Like have a question of the week! One week it would be:
"What do you like in Villains?"
"What do you like in Hero's/Antiheros?"
"Who is your favorite Villain?"
"Who is your favorite Hero/Antihero?"
"Who is your favorite author and why?"
"What is your least favorite genre?"
"What is your favorite genre?"
"What is your favorite book?"
"What themes did you like in that book?"
So for about 15 minutes you could have a group discussion. Then you could allow everyone a chance to share their writing with the group. Everyone can give him/her praise or tips for their writing.

I need article ideas for my Middle school newspaper!?We Answered:
Do a survey on what people think is most important...and do it again next year to see if the incoming students have different ideas.Ask people what the effect of the economy is on their plans for the future. What has changed?
Ask if the internet makes school and learning any better or any worse.
Ask what they do as far as 'social networking' (phone Text, FaceBook, etc.) and how much time they spend on it.
Make a 'time capsule' and ask what to put in it (to be opened in 20 or 50 years).
I guess that if you want to have fun, you should involve other people...so ask something and then put it together as an article. Then let people see that what they think is worth considering.

Help for 6th grade child who HATES Creative writing!!?We Answered:
give him a little bit of space. he needs to figure out what it takes for him to think outside the box. it really is something he needs to learn on his own.though perhaps he will listen to advice from people his own age? does he have any friends who are in his class who might be able to throw a few ideas his way to get him going? often kids dont listen to parents simply because they are parents. so hearing it from someone his age and in the class with him might help.
and in all honesty, failing one assignment might wake him up. i know that sounds harsh a little but sometimes it is just the wakeup call a kid needs. so if he half asses this assignment and doesnt get a good grade, maybe next time he will try a little harder so he doesnt have to taste failure again
