Mildred Said:

If you major in illustration (with a creative writing double major) can you land a full-time job?

We Answered:

It's true that there aren't many permanently employed comic artists, and the vast majority of the work goes to freelancers - this is because projects requiring different styles come and go very often. They also employ seperate artists and writers, so unless you're prepared to develop your own comic by yourself without being paid and then try to find a publisher, you won't be able to be hired to do that either. In fact, within the category of artist, they also employ seperate pencillers, inkers, and colourists - so if you want to work in comics, you may want to give some thought as to what role you are most interested in.

Freelancing isn't all bad - it works for some people and not for others. There are many successful comic artists who are freelance. You might want to look over this article if you are considering it:

But if you really want a full-time job, you may have to look at some slightly different industries.

Good luck. :)
