People go for their Grad degree in fields not related to their undergrad degrees all the time, you just need to meet whatever the prerequisites are for entering that grad program.

Most definatley, writing can be a very lucrative business to get into. You are your own boss and you set the dead lines! Take it up in college, but also make sure you have a back up plan incase you don't like it like you thought you would. I love to write and I am looking forward to hopefully publishing my book this year! Good Luck and never give up on your dreams!

If you are applying for an academic program (MS, MA, or PhD) as opposed to a professional program (MD, JD or MBA), the content should be as follows:

- Your preparation for graduate study, including languages and research, but providing more specifics than are apparent on your transcript. Titles of research papers, names of courses, for example.

- Reason for choosing the specific program to which you are applying.

- Intended focus, including preferred methodology, influential theorists, etc.

- Future plans and goals.

Creativity in presentation is unnecessary and could perhaps be distracting, so I would discourage it.

If you are not providing a writing sample, then the SOP is the place to demonstrate facility with theory and method as well.

Most programs will specify length. 2 pages is usual.
