PLZ HELP ME!!!... Knox College or University of Iowa?

We Answered:

I don't have any experience with Knox, but my sister did her Master's at U of Iowa, and I looked at the college as a possibility too and really liked it. Generally, the larger the school, the more options they have. Since the post-grad work at University of Iowa is rated so highly, I would expect that their undergraduate program is pretty exemplary as well. Also, if you're looking to do some post grad work after you finish your degree, then it will probably be easier to get into that program knowing the instructors, and having your degree from that school. I really liked the campus at University of Iowa, and felt they had a really well-rounded school. You can also go online to either college and see what writing courses they have available that appeal to you. Typically speaking, the smaller the college, the fewer types of classes they will offer, and the fewer opportunities you'll have in the long run.

I'd go for University of Iowa...GO (umm) Seahawks? Is that it? Crap, I went to U of Illinois, I don't remember.

USC, UCLA, or UC Berkeley for English majors?

We Answered:

I would say that UC Berkeley would be your best bet if you want to major in English. All three of those schools are amazing and you would do very well at all of them, but I think that Berkeley has more of an edge -- especially in the creative writing area. Berkeley is the epitome of the liberal/creative/thinking outside the box scene, and although UCLA and USC foster some of those characteristics as well, Berkeley would be a better school. To top it off, Berkeley is more widely known for its Humanities programs, whereas UCLA and USC are more known for their Science/Medicine/Math programs.

Lauren Said:

Could someone work on a second BA while in graduate school?

We Answered:

Never heard of someone actually getting another bachelors degree while doing a grad degree, but I know some PhD students who have taken all the required courses for another undergrad degree during their stint in the PhD program. I'd ask someone familiar with the specifics of your institution. Good luck!
